Behold, A Woman!
27 APR 1994
Behold,
what's this?
A star shining amongst the sun's sky?
'Tis not night; yet 'ere it glistens bright.
Perhaps then, a jewel;
look how it seems to give off its own light.
Rare this is, but no:
If indeed this were a jewel,
it would be too pure to e'er been touched
and in the earth it would lie still --
I reckon I am not yet buried under,
I will have my evidence!
...
Note this, it motions outward
Aye, and 'tis warm;
No, this is no jewel, nor star
Moreover it is not it at all,
for to have said so has been slander
This is alive!
Misled I will be no longer
for by the spark I received
I know this to be a woman,
a young woman no less,
with a power I have ne'er come across:
She enchants, enraptures; ensnares!
Yea, with a glance
and a taste of her ready warmth
She touches my heart: I am yet alive,
and well I wish to stay --
I will not submit,
like a man who marries for love
Yes, I will look and be fascinated in awe,
but soon will I turn my beholden eyes away,
Else sacrifice and her watch
shall I call friend!
