The Final of the Momentum ODI Cup 2021 is around us and unfortunately, much like the rest of South African cricket, this tournament has been a complete shambles as well. The rain has ruined a number of important matches including one of the semi-finals. Before we get any further, you should know that the forecast for the Final is pretty grim as well.
The Lions and the Dolphins did top their respective groups so, in a way, this is perhaps the best we can hope for in these strange circumstances.
Dolphins vs Lions Momentum ODI Cup 2021 Final is going to be played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on the 4th of February 2021.
The Dolphins were in a difficult position in the previous match but a superb fightback from Senuram Muthusamy and Robbie Frylinck managed to get them over the line. That was the kind of win that will give some confidence to the Dolphins.
It was only their second win of the tournament as their group has been ravaged by rain.
The Dolphins have been lucky to get to the finals but they must believe that they belong there otherwise the final is going to be a tough one for them.
The batting has to do better. Grant Roelofson, Marques Ackerman, and Khaya Zondo must set the base for the lower order to try and accelerate. The depth in the batting is there but the form of the top-order batsmen is a big concern.
Among the bowlers, Frylinck and Muthusamy shone once again but there were some good contributions from Subrayen and Baartman as well. There are more than enough options to turn to and the Dolphins should be able to get together a decent bowling attack for this match.
Grant Roelofsen, Michael Erlank, Marques Ackerman, Ruan de Swardt, Khaya Zondo, Senuran Muthusamy, Robert Frylinck, Mangaliso Mosehle, P Subrayen, Eathan Bosch, Kerwin Mungroo.
The Lions have been out of action for quite a bit of time. They are also going to be without some of their key players that have gone to Pakistan for the T20 leg of the series. The batting is going to be without Reeza Hendricks and so the role of Dominic Hendricks becomes much more important.
Kagiso Rapulana, Mitchell van Buuren, and Nicky van den Bergh should be able to get enough runs to make the match competitive. The batting lineup for the Lions is decent and the unit has actually won three matches during the group stage as well.
The loss of Reeza Hendricks is a big one but not an insurmountable loss!
Bjorn Fortuin is going to miss out because of international commitments as well. That means that the team will bank heavily on Pongolo and Hawken.
As with the batting, the bowling should have enough to cover for this loss but the gap between the two teams has shrunk considerably.
Bryce Parsons, Wesley Marshall, Kagiso Rapulana, Dominic Hendricks, NJ Van den Bergh, Delano Potgieter, Nono Pongolo, MP Siboto, SSB Magala, Eldred Hawken, Johannes Diseko.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first as there is rain predicted and DLS calculations could come into play.

The weather forecast is quite poor and there is a lot of rain expected. There is a very real possibility that we get a completely rained-out game. If there is some respite and we do get some cricket, the pitch is going to be low, slow, and tough to score on.
That is what we saw in the first semi-final that the Dolphins won.
We are going to go with the Dolphins in this match. They are coming into this match on the back of a win and have a fairly settled lineup. We also like the presence of Robbie Frylinck in this lineup because of his never-say-die attitude.
Bet on the Dolphins to win.
