RSA vs PAK Match & Dream 11 Prediction, Betting Tips, Playing 11, Pitch Report and Analysis - Jan 30, 2019

Pakistan were surprised by the sudden change in leadership going into the fourth ODI, but it apparently had no impact on Pakistan's performance in the field. Conversely, they played with even stronger grit and determination and defeat the Proteas at the Wanderers - the ground which was known to be their fortress. Pakistan stunning victory brought the series level with two wins for each side. The fifth and final ODI of the series is set up nicely where both teams will be looking to secure a win before moving to the shortest version of the game. The ODI series is set to end at Cape Town on 30th January where the two teams will like to seal the series and take the psychological advantage of a win in Cricket World Cup. Although the clashes in the series have been rather one-sided, the series has been pretty exciting and the series couldn't have had more fitting finish with the final ODI set to set the ultimate result.

RSA vs PAK Team Previews

South Africa

It was the first occasion in the history of South African cricket that they ended up on the losing side in a Pink Day match. Additionally, it was also the first time that they lost to Pakistan at the Wanderers. They were dominated in all departments of the game and will be looking to turn the tide in their favor on Wednesday.

South Africa's total of 164 was only the third lowest total with at least a hundred run partnership in the innings. At one moment, when Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis were batting, the Proteas looked like getting a lot more runs. However, after their third wicket partnership of 101, the Proteas lacked sincere effort from their lower-middle order batsmen as they lost their final eight wickets for just 45 runs.

At one moment, they were well on track to script a revival, but Shinwari's terrific final burst blasted through South Africa's tail as he dismissed four batsmen with six deliveries. The Proteas failed to even play-out their full quota of fifty overs, and that too by nine overs.

It was a difficult total to defend, but the Proteas bowlers started off in a brilliant fashion in the first few overs. Dale Steyn, in particular, was impressive and had a close caught behind appeal which South Africa reviewed and then lost.

Post the opening burst, however, there was nothing threatening offered from South Africa's bowling as all among Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Andile Pheklukwayo, and Reeza Hendricks were smashed for runs. All in all, Pakistan have done well in the series and the only thing they've lacked is the consistency. The experienced lot in Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, and Quinton de Kock will have to play more responsibly and if they can do that, they'll be promising candidates to win not only the upcoming match but also quite a few matches at the World Cup.

Pakistan

Pakistan have certainly put up a better performance in the ODIs as compared to what they did in the red-ball cricket. Shoaib Malik as a skipper had a different approach, that is, a calmer and a more practical approach, as compared to Sarfraz Ahmed, but it worked magically for the visiting team.

Shaheen Afridi proved his skipper's decision of choosing to bowl dead right as he removed Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks within the first six overs of the game. After a terrific partnership between du Plessis and Amla thereafter, spinners regained control over the proceedings and removed the pair within 11 runs. South Africa then lost wickets in bunches as Imad Wasim and Shadb Khan strangled them in the middle overs. The spin duo of Khan and Wasim picked up three wickets between them and gave away only 78 runs in their 19 overs combined. Usman Shinwari took only six deliveries to pick the last four Protean batsmen.

It was a fantastic effort by Imam ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman in the early overs as they survived probing spells of pace bowling from Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada. The pair stitched together an opening stand of 70 before Zaman was dismissed. Babar Azam has been one of the most consistent batsmen of the series and he looked unfussed by the Proteas' bowling. The pair of Imam ul Haq and Babar Azam took the tourists close to the win before Imam ul Haq threw his wicket away while playing a needless shot. Pakistan eventually won the match convincingly with eight wickets in hand and more than eighteen overs to spare.

RSA vs PAK Toss Prediction

History is clearly in favor of the team batting first and with the surface likely to slow down over the course of the game, the captain winning the toss will be looking to bat first.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

It's almost been a year since the last One Day International was played here wherein India thrashed South Africa by a considerable margin. It was also the same occasion when Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up eight wickets between them. It will be safe to assume that there will be assistance for the spinners, more so in the second innings. There's a strong case of batting first here after winning the toss as only once in the last five matches has the team chasing ended up on the winning side. Pitch tends to slow down towards the back-end of the game which makes shot-making a little difficult. The weather on Wednesday is forecasted to be partly cloudy with negligible chances of rain. With three 300+ totals scored in the last three matches at this venue, the recent history suggests the par score of around 320 which is the least the team batting first should be looking to score.

RSA vs PAK Betting Tips

The competition has been intense in the ODI series after a rather one-sided after in the longest version of the game. It's been a while since AB de Villiers retired from international cricket, but apparently the Proteas as still struggling to find his replacement in the middle order. Pakistan, on the other hand, did not really miss Sarfraz Ahmed in their last game. Pakistan have been consistently good in all the matches played in the series so far. Shaheen Shah Afridi has been a revelation and Babar Azam hasn't been an easy man to dismiss. Furthermore, the problems of handling spin have crept up which they'll be desperate to address before the marquee ICC event. Considering the recent results and teams on-paper, Pakistan go in as slight favorites to win the fifth and final ODI of the series.
