There are many training methods to choose from. The key word is "gentle!" It is NEVER necessary to hit a dog or otherwise force him into doing something. When the bond between master and dog exists, the dog will want to please. "Gentle" training, "gentle" corrections, "love" and the ability to "read" your dog will prove in the end that "quality time" spent together pays off!
Ivy is shown on the following pages at 6 1/2 months old. Our training sessions are about 15 minutes a day. She has never been hit, never heard a harsh word, and has proven once again if you give love, you will get it in return.

IVY TURN!

The "Turn" is quite simple! I start with Ivy in a "stand" position and hold a biscuit by her nose and bring it around in a complete circle. She naturally follows the food! As this teaching continues, I shorten the length of how far I bring the biscuit around her. When the trick is completely learned, all I have to do is tell her "Ivy Turn" and whip my hand in a circular fashion and she'll flip all the way around herself! To get her to do more than one circle, I simply give her the turn command again.

IVY ROLLOVER!

This picture shows Ivy just learning the "Rollover." To start this, she is put in a "down" position and the biscuit is put by her nose then circled over. At the same time I may have to help her legs over. When starting to teach this trick, I don't expect her to roll completely over. If she goes from one side to another she will get a treat. The end result will be Ivy being given the command "down" then "rollover" and she will roll over and sit up. Now of course I will throw in several roll over commands once she gets used to doing it.

To give you an idea how tall Ivy is at 6 1/2 months, she is standing by Heather who is 5' 7"
