The subfamily is of fairly wide distribution in
xeric areas of Asia, Africa and South America. Michener (2000) formed it by
uniting Fideliidae of many authors and the anthophorine tribe Pararhophitini
(Popov, 1949). Apparently, the subfamily has been further subdivided into
two tribes, namely: Fideliinae & Pararhophitini. McGinley & Rozen (1987)
described the larvae of one species of Pararhophites from North Pakistan.
A good number of works are published by Rozen regarding Fideliine phylogeny and
nesting biology.
