The family consist of bees that possess very
diverse size and appearance. On one hand one finds very small Ceratina,
Allodape like bees and on another Xylocopa like large bees.
Phylogeny of Xylocopinae was discussed by Sakagami and Michener (1987) and,
Roig-Alsina and Michener (1993). There are four tribes grouped under subfamily
namely, Xylocopini, Allodapini, Ceratinini and Manueliini. Among them first
three occurs in our specified region whereas, fourth occurs in Chile and
Argentina. Australian genera have been in major revised by Houston during
different years and were listed by Cardale (1993) and for majority of taxonomic
revisions Michener (1965, 1975, 1977, 1981 & 2000) should be consulted.
