For the past few
weeks Mrs Jones and her class 3/4J, have been aclimatising their travel
buddy "Chilly Billy" penguin ready for
it's year down south. I will be sending digital photos of the penguin
at various exciting locations around Casey station and beyond. The
class will then create a webpage of his own adventures and add it
to their schools website. |

Billy arrived 14th January
on the Russian Icebreaker Vasiliy Golovnin he has since travelled
widely, including Wilkes station, huts Browning, Jacks and Robbos,
on an 300km inland traverse to Law Dome, under ground (ice) 25 metres
down a dis used drill site, on science expeditions both by inflatable
rubber boats, helicopter and by skiing. |

During
Summer times there are lots of Adelie penguins around like
these two.
But during winter even
the Adelie peguins leave here, as the sea is all frozen and
the penguins need to feed on krill near open water. |

|
It's great
to get inside the tent and out of the wind when it's -17 degrees
and snowing outside. |
