HITLER AT A RALLY

Like Mussolini, Hitler was very aware of the theatrical and heroic nature of fascist political rule. His minister of propaganda, Josef Goebbels, introduced dramatic settings and effects into many of Hitler's rallys and other public appearances.

In this image, Hitler and two of his powerful subordinates, Rudolf Hess and Baldur von Schirach, address a large Hitler Youth rally in 1938. Hitler's focus on the youth of Germany was politically useful -- as youth are so often willing to follow popular leaders. But it was also cynical since Hitler would soon send many of these boys to die in battle for the "good" of the Fatherland.

Does the setting of this rally and the attitude and dress of the participants transmit (emotionally) a sense of power and pride?
