Do you know the parts of a crochet hook? Here we go. There is the point or sometimes called the tip. Then there is the shank, this is the place where your yarn rests before forming a stitch and determines the size your stitches will be. Then on most hooks there is a thumb rest. The rest of the hook is for balance and as shown on this hook decoration. The crochet hook shown does not have a thumb rest however most all hooks now have them. When I was at the CGOA Chain Link in Seattle I took a class on making crochet hooks. It was great! I recommend all to at one time, make a crochet hook. Maybe not as fancy as the one shown here. How many different types of hooks do you have? Do you collect hooks? For me I do not collect as a collector, however I do collect all types of hooks. I like to have them available so I can leave them with my works in progress (WIP) and be able to try different sizes on different types of yarns. Each hook changes the way I work with the yarn. The bigger the hook the more of my hand I use and the smaller hooks the more I use my fingers. I do have trouble with the ornamental hooks because they rub on the side of my palm. |
