Charlie's Blog #56: Been blogging for a year!

Been blogging for a year!

Wow, as of today I've been blogging for a year! That definitely calls for some kind of post or other... Lets see, what was my first post about? Hmmm. Hand wringing and justification of blogging at all. Well I think I'm done with that. How 'bout I just spew out some miscellaneous miscellany then?

Fact:
I figured out the other day that I weigh about 14 stone. That will sure be handy to know. Because, ya know, people are asking me how much I weigh all the time, ya know. I'll just say "Oh about 14 stone", making myself clear as mud.

Opinion:
Whipped frosting is a waste of a perfectly good sheet cake. I hate that stuff. No whipped frosting will be pushing me towards 15 stone, that's for sure.

Bizarre idea:
There should be a way to smoke water. A way to enjoy the goodness of water in a smoking like fashion. Unfortunately water doesn't burn.

Yeah, that's a pretty weird idea. I was really tired and fatigued when I came up with that one. Being now rested, awake and once more fully sane, I almost want to back away from having thought of that...

Aphorisms?

An odd rambling:
I think the living will never outnumber the dead. The number of dead people is cumulative, inclusive of all people that ever lived, except those currently living of course. The number of living is always increasing, but it can never catch up to the accumulation of all past generations. I can't quite figure out the math on this, but it's like the number of living is always taking two steps forward and one step back, while the number of dead is increasing factorialy. It would be interesting to see a census count of the dead, to compare with the world population of the living.

Another odd rambling:
How much productivity is wasted annually designing the bottoms of tennis shoes and toothbrushes? Every one is different, and there is no real reason for it. No purpose to all that design effort and continual making of new dies for the molds. I don't really even think it helps them sell -- especially toothbrushes. I mean it's nice that toothbrushes and the bottoms of tennis shoes don't stay the same forever, but does every single one have to be completely redesigned?? I've wondered about this for a long time -- I just feel like a hell of a lot of productive effort is wasted doing this...

One more odd rambling:
"Good" is a funny looking word. Just look at it for a while: good. Too many circles and curves in it. Funny lookin'. Good.

Yet another odd rambling:
Can we trust the French to point out what is good in our own culture that we do not realize? Such as Free Jazz? In general, can we trust another culture to judge what is good and valuable about our own? I mean, we do it all the time too, to other cultures. Just human nature I guess. Outsider judgments about what is best in a culture form the collection of things that are sold as souvenirs to tourists... For example, China. Everyone knows about the Great Wall. Definite souvenir potential there. But the Summer Palace is pretty incredible too, but much less well known outside of China. So there aren't as many "Summer Palace" souvenirs as there are "Great Wall" souvenirs. I do not think it's right for the rest of the world to have judged that the Great Wall is "better" than the Summer Palace, though it is undeniably great. The Summer Palace is certainly nothing to sneeze at. At this point I have to ask myself where I am going with this argument... I'm not sure anymore. I don't really like Free Jazz. If the French do, fine, they can go right ahead. Perhaps Free Jazz will serve as inspiration for the French to create something I will like. (And of course not every French person likes Free Jazz, I'm sure. It's a fringe thing any way you slice it.)

Feelin' linky: Been meaning for a while to link to some really good internet cartoons that I read -- just because they are so good! Check these out!
