Humorous and Unusual Real Church Names

What's in a name? A way to stand out from the crowd? The fulfillment of legal requirements for doing "business"? The opportunity to express the group’s most important attribute or desire? Christ called his followers "sheep". After glancing through directories of thousands of names, we have yet to find anyone calling themselves "sheep" although we did find beavers, lions, owls, eagles, a wolf, a coyote, a snake and at least one "lamb". Also, some that left us curious or amused, and sometimes nearly speechless.

We did not make up these names. These are all "real" and either “official” or “preferred local” church names found in church directories. Some we documented from more than one source because we didn't believe it either.
