Writing Contest winners

Why wait? According to the information I originally gave regarding The Churchwarden's Second Annual Writing Contest, the winners would be published in the August/ September 2002 issue. But I see no wisdom in waiting, and no point in prolonging the prize awards for another month. The essays have been written and submitted, the winners have been selected, and the stories are now ready for the world to read. Thus, out of appreciation for the contestants, I thought it would be especially fitting to devote this special edition of THE CHURCHWARDEN to their literary creativity. My own writing can be put off till the next issue.

First prize goes to Mr. Reed Munson. He will receive a Peterson pipe.

Second prize goes to Mr. Joseph Brajkovich. This gentleman is a Calvinist from California. Believe me, it shows! He will receive two tins of tobacco--Solace and Longevity--by Cornell & Diehl, Inc.

Third prize goes to Mr. Jim Gavin. He, too, will receive a high quality tin of tobacco and one of my yet to be famous Trout Stream Pipe Tampers. The astute reader will note that no possibility of a third prize was ever mentioned in the contest rules. This was an error on my part.

Last year only one person entered the contest. This year I am greatly encouraged by the larger number of entries, so much so that I sincerely look forward to next year's contest.
