The Reel Deal in Fly Fishing

Last summer on July 2nd I purchased a Teton Tioga LA from Elliot Nachwalter's pipe and fly shop in Manchester, Vermont. I got it for a bamboo rod I accidentally bought the day before from an old guy selling cane sticks out of his basementbut that's another story altogether which involved, amongst other things, using Amy as collateral. Anyway, I fished said reel throughout the rest of 2005, and I'm now convinced this may be the best deal in fly fishing today.

First off, my Tioga works flawlessly, which means it holds line and the disc drag works properly when needed. If a reel handles those two functions well, what more can be expected? Fit and finish are quite good, also.

Secondly, the Tioga is manufactured right here in America.

Thirdly, my Tioga didn't cost a fortune, small or large. Current pricing is around 140 to 160 dollars, depending on size.

Finally, the guarantee is unbeatable. Simply stated, "Tioga reels are guaranteed for the life of the original purchaser without limitation."

So then, for under two-hundred bucks you can get an American-made large arbor backed up with no fine print whatsoever .

Honestly, I see no reason to buy anything else for freshwater angling.
