K-Mart
This section will contain photos of certain K-Mart Stores that are worth photographing.
Photo taken 04/2003. Store closed 05/2003. North Carson Street at College Parkway. This store was the busiest K-Mart Store I had ever seen. This store had no other competition on its side of town other than an Albertsons and a Safeway. The Wal Mart and Target were located in South Carson, which is generally a 10 minute drive due to slow speeds and traffic. Closing this store was a serious mistake for K-Mart.
This sign was placed along North Carson Street. The white area on the bottom portion of the sign formerly housed a "Post Office Express" sign. That was another thing lost by North Carson upon closure of this store...
07/2002. Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA. This store somehow escaped transformation into the "Big K" model. It is a very large store, so size isn't the reason. Ironically, in the past few years, Kmart has closed five "Big K" model stores in Sacramento area (Woodland, Mack Road, Folsom, Northgate Blvd., Antelope). Even more interesting, four of those five closed stores opened in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Yet this old relic of the 1960's or 1970's lives on, and with original signage.
