photos

The following are photos taken during the period I had lived in Galang and later , after I arrived in the US to date .  I wish I had preserved some photos of the time I was in VN. Unfortunately, leaving the country in escaping situation did not allow me to bring along such a luxurious option .

in galang camp

2/90 Galang Camp, Indonesia

It was my first Lunar New Year in the camp. My friends and I gathered at a cafe shop chatting about the past.
Lan does not like my long hair in this photo at all.

4/91 Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia - Harbor
My first chance of seeing the outside world. This harbor town - about 1 hr by speed boat from Galang -  reminded me a lot of Vinh Long, a small town in the Mekong delta, along the Tien River. Refugees were allowed to travel to this town every weekend for shopping.
This policy later was changed due to the  worsening security situation  in the Camp.

Galang Tech Office - Christmas 91
UNHCR Office held a small party for its volunteer to celebrate Christmas. In the photo, I was busy cutting the cake. Behind me, partly shown was Yadi, a local staff working at Technical Office.
The Santa poster, and other drawings on the wall, were my works in this office....

2/93 Galang 1

This photo was taken at a friend's hut in Galang 1 before I left Galang the following day. He was my schoolmate at HCM City Collge of Architecture and a talented artist who now resides in Toronto, Canada.
The painting on the wall behind me was one of his many works done in the camp.
