United As One Honoring Police Officers and Firefighters

In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks, our nation's citizens have come together in numerous ways to show their support to the hundreds of families whose lives have been unexpectedly and tragically altered by the events of September 11, 2001. A group of Chicago and suburban police officers and firefighters, many of whom went to New York to assist in the rescue and recovery efforts, as well as their families, friends and supporters, have united to do the same.

On Saturday, November 17th, 2001 a fundraiser will be held at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th Street, Merrionette Park, IL. The day will begin with a blood drive sponsored by LifeSource at 9:00am and blood donations will be accepted until 3:00pm. To schedule an appointment please call (800) 486-0680. The fundraiser opens at 10:00am and runs until 6:00pm. The event will feature food, beverages, entertainment, kid's games, and numerous raffles. Tickets are $30.00 for adults and $5.00 for anyone under 21. All proceeds to benefit the NY Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Fund.

In conjunction with this event, we are building two walls displaying the shoulder patches of participating police and fire departments across the region. One wall will be sent, along with the fund-raising proceeds, to the representatives of the New York Police and Fire Widow and Children's Fund. The other wall will remain on display at 115 Bourbon Street as a memorial tribute to fallen police and firefighters, and as a display of interdepartmental cooperation and unity. To participate in this effort, we are requesting two (2) uniform shirt shoulder-sized patches and a one hundred dollar minimum donation from each group. To be included, patches must be received by November 10,2001. 100% of this donation will be forwarded to the New York Police and Fire Widow and Children's Fund. Any departments, companies, units, or clubs that wish to participate are welcome and urged to do so. Make checks payable to United As One or the New York Police and Firefighters Widow and Children's Fund and send check and patches to:
