I read that somebody had used a dark marble to represent night shields on the skimmers. I decided to use this concept for making my Night Shield. The marble was mounted atop a piece of 1/4-inch diameter polystyrene tube. I modified some of the blades from the Raider model kit to function as supports for the marble and glued them to the tube. I also cut up the U-shaped ram that comes with the Raider kit and glued pieces to the base of the tube where it attaches to the Raider. The Raider itself was modified by drilling a hole in the top and gluing in a 5/16" diameter polystyrene tube that would accept the smaller tube that was the night shield. I used a similar system for making removable tails for my raiders. The end result is shown below. To simulate an active Night Shield I wrapped the model with a fine black plastic mesh that I purchased at a fabric shop. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
