Philly Shows

I did go to both Philly shows at The NorthStar, but I was in town on business (I'm from Dallas) and I kept getting calls during both performances. I missed at least a couple of songs each night. I also missed Chris and Kate, who opened both shows. I really wanted to see them because I heard Kate has a great voice. Anyway, here is my sketchy review at best. The first show was an all ages show on a Mon night. No drinking or smoking allowed. There were probably no more than 40 people there. I liked the no smoking rule, but not being able to drink a beer was strange. The show had an intimate, coffeehouse feel- sans smoke. It was the first time I had seen her live and I was captivated right away. Sarah has an incredibly beautiful, warm voice and she sings effortlessly. Her CD is great, but live she is amazing. Ok, I'll quit gushing. I can't remember all of the songs or the order, but...she started with Come On Lion and played every song from the CD except The Hideout and Everytime(unless she played them while I was out talking on the phone that seemed to vibrate every two minutes). She played a couple of Weeping Tile songs ? Blues and another I can't remember. She also played a Gillian Welch song. She also announced that she was asked to be on Letterman, but was told later in the day that Guiliani was a guest and he was on too long, so Pete Yorn was asked to come back in Sarah's spot the next night. That was it for the first show. The second night she seemed to be a little more upbeat. The crowd was bigger and people were drinking, which may have affected her mood. She was more talkative and interactive with the crowd. Both shows were great, but I enjoyed the second show. I could drink a beer and I got fewer calls. She played the same songs in a different order from the night before, but she added a couple of songs. She played a Dylan tune, Crickets, I think. She said she met Don Was, the famed producer, who told her some great Dylan stories, which she said she couldn't divulge. The big tease. I'm not a big Dylan fan, but it was a great tune for her to play. Again, that voice. She also played the Gillian tune and different Weeping Tile tunes (which before the shows I had never heard of). Forgive me if this isn't accurate, but I gave it a shot.
