Coincidentally, admissions-taker Neal, currently a teacher at Holy Heart, is a graduate of Heritage Collegiate in Musgravetown, where my sons are currently attending school (it is a small world, isnt it?).  He also told me he sings in a choir with Peter Jackson, Lifestyles Editor at The Telegram.

For the time being, I'll be hosting webpages for
Newfound Jazz.  Click here for info and updates.

Scott Goudie
is slated to play at the Rose & Thistle on May 7/05, so be sure to mark that date on your calendar.  Hes worth checking out for his wide knowledge of traditional and legendary roots and blues music, including that of Robert Johnson, Mose Allison, Arthur Blind Blake and Blind Willie McTell.  Scott has a musical association with fellow blues guitarist Peter Narvaez.

Speaking of the late Willie McTell,
Cohn De Silva Entertainment will be releasing a deluxe box set of his material.  You can secure your copy of it at www.blindwilliemctell.com.

The
Washington Blues Society (WBS) in Seattle will be presenting their annual Best of the Blues (BB) Awards on April 24/05 at Moonraker in Kent, Washington.  They are going to have a tough time deciding the winners, as there are 35 bands nominated and as many nominations in individual categories.  For more information, visit www.wablues.org.

Upon purchasing a copy of
Luther Allison's Blue Streak CD (featuring his classic Cherry Red Wine composition) at Fred's Records, I did some research and discovered that the WBS had posthumously given Luther a Blues Hall of Fame award in 1998 and contributed $400 to the Luther Allison Foundation.  The award was accepted by Jef (El Jefe) Jaisun, a huge fan of Mr. Allison.  Check out Jefs interesting website, particularly the music section.

The second weekend of the month ended with my discovering that I live a couple of doors away from a professional musician-in-training.  Young
Sean (don't know his last name yet) and his two female friends decided to take advantage of the sunny (but cool) day to haul a chair outdoors and give the neighbourhood (Barter's Hill/Springdale) an impromptu serenade.  The self-taught guitarist has composed several songs, one of which is a beautiful tribute to his baby boy (now four years of age).  His musical influences are quite varied, as he fluidly played the introductory notes to Beethoven's classic "Fr Elise", Ozzy's "Mama, I'm Coming Home", Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" (requested by one of the girls) and Metallica's "Enter Sandman".  He insists he's not a singer (something that is not readily admitted by certain vocalists that should), but his voice is actually nice, if limited in range.  I'm glad to meet ya, neighbour - keep on rockin'.
