In the April 10 edition of this online journal, I stated that fiddler Kelly Russell (of Figgy Duff, Wonderful Grand Band, The Planks, etc.) was going to be interviewed by CBC and CHMR this month, but I was informed last night that, due to his daughter's illness, these plans have been postponed indefinitely.

In other news about traditional Newfoundland music,
The Sharecroppers have released a new CD called "Home, Boys!".  Check out the song samples at their website - it's good stuff!

Canadian Irish bands
Leahy, The Irish Descendants (of Newfoundland) and Enter The Haggis are scheduled to perform on September 17 at the 2005 Irish2000 Music and Arts Festival in Albany, NY.  For more information and to view the complete (tentative) line-up, go to www.irishfest2000.com.

In the latest news regarding the physical location of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the candidate cities have now been narrowed down to Hamilton and Toronto (both in Ontario).  A decision is expected to be announced in early May.

Browse through the "Announcements" section for more local (St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) events.  If you have your own cultural event you'd like to see posted there, send me an email at
[email protected].
