Martian Successor Nadesico Box Set

Yeah! I got the Martian Successor Nadesico Box Set.  It of course has it's ups and downs.  But overall I think it is a pretty good Box Set.

Menus
The menus are pretty good.  Simple but effective.  There isn't a way to tell what language and subtitling settings are currently set though, well that is until the last two disks. Also the background graphics and audio remain the same throughout the entire set, nothing big but there could have been a little bit of change here and there to make things more interesting.

Subtitles
The subtitles are pretty good.  There is some slight mistiming at points, but nothing real noticeable.  The subtitles match the dialog pretty closely as far as I can tell.  There are some points where's there's so many subtitles going so fast that you can't keep up, but that's not ADV's fault, Just too much dialog at one time.

Japanese Language Track
No issues that I can think of.  (My preferred track)

English Language Track
The English track isn't too bad.

Video
Overall I think the video transfer looks good.  There is some blocking, but you really have to look for it.  Someone also decided that the Japanese Logo wasn't good enough, and replaced it, While the new logo is one of the better English Logo's that I've seen, I don't think it was necessary the replace the original logo.  My only Major complaint is those horrible overlays, It wouldn't be so bad if you had the ability to turn them off.  Unfortunately this was not one of ADV's considerations, my only Major complaint about the disk set.  I feel one day here I'll have to attempt to get the Japanese release of "Martian Successor Nadesico" to cover for this error.  While they're bad, I don't think that it makes me wish that I hadn't bought the set, it only makes me wish that all Anime Companies would get the clue that they should offer completely unaltered video tracks on all of their DVD's.  I must also connect to this that the Japanese Opening and End credits are also not included, another feature that I look for in DVD's.

Dubb Opinions

General Opinions/Notes

The Case:  This is my first encounter with one of these "Omni Disk" Cases (6 in this instance).  I'm sorry to say that I have found that I don't like them.  I suppose they are Ok, But I've discovered through this experience that the Single/Double Cases are my favorite.  I realize that these Omni Disk Cases are probably cheaper, but I have found them to be annoying.  They're clumsy, you don't get as much eye candy, this case had some of those really difficult to release buttons that hold down the DVD (a real problem for someone as careful with their disks as me).

Versions Viewed:  Personally I've seen an RealMedia Version, and the DVD Region #1 commercial version from the Box Set released by ADVision.
