Interlude V: Letter to Colesun

Senor Colesun,

Good sir, this letter, I know is long overdue. In fact sir I should not even be writing it. I have wronged you and for that I owe you an apology. The act needs not rementioning, but I need to apologize for it. This is hard for me, to say the least, and because of that, I do not expect, nor do I ask for, forgiveness. That is not my intent. Were the situation reversed, I would not forgive you, so I do not expect that of you. In fact, were they reversed, you would very likely be dead. But then you are a better man than I sir.

Traveling in the company of William and Lia has given me new respect for the peoples of Avalon. I judged you and treated you harshly when we first met. For that I can not atone. Since that first meeting, however, and I've come to realize you are far stronger than I at first thought. Your willingness to travel with us then, and especially your willingness to travel with us now, in light of certain circumstances, show that you are a courageous man. I do have a profound respect for scholars, but I did not show that respect to you because you are not Castillian, and to my ignorant ways, not worthy of respect. I was wrong, and again I apologize.

Traveling with us sir, puts you at grave risk. You can not possibly comprehend the full extent of the danger for if you did, you might think twice about doing so. I certainly have considered leaving this small band. My obligation to this adventure ended in Ussura, but I can no more abandon my companions than you can abandon your love of knowledge. Having said that sir, if you will accept me, then I will swear to you, upon my own life, that you will not come to harm on any future adventures that you may partake with our little "fellowship."

If you do not accept, my honor will not be slighted because I will understand. Know this though, that I will protect you anyway, because I have a debt of honor that needs to be repaid. I once thought that the Avalon were without honor. Your countrymen have proven me wrong on multiple occasions. I will, sir, prove to you that the Castillians are not without honor.

Very Respectfully,

Enrique Soldana de Montoya del Castille
