SCALDS More than 4,000 children are scalded by tap water every year. Most commonly, young children are the victims. Remember that infants' skin is a lot thinner and more sensitive than an adult's is and can be scalded quickly. Try following these tips to help prevent unnecessary burns: Spas and hot tubs, typically located near or sometimes inside the home, pose another hazard to young children. CPSC is aware of 55 children under age 5 who drowned in spas and hot tubs between 1996 and 1999. |
