Pressure Point: Youth On The Street CD (GMM)

By Tuomas Koskinen

Pressure Point is from Sacramento, California and it is a shame they're not better known in Finland. At least I hadn't heard of them before Dora sent me a CD with a couple of their songs.

This is their debut-CD from 1997, I think.

You can call their music Oi!, Street Punk, Punk Rock or whatever. It's something like that. They're snottier Rancid or Wasted but with more Oi! and keep up the melodies. I love Pressure Point so much because they have such a positive sound. Nothing can help the fact that this band is FUCKING AWESOME! Bassist, Andre, plays great and so do guitar players Kenny and Mike G. The Drummer, Ben, does a good job and singer, Mike, sings as punk as possible. I also have to mention the great back up vocals!

After the great Heart Like A Lion (which is a great song about skinhead girls), they cover Angelic Upstarts Never 'Ad Nothin' and they make it really rock. And after that comes more good or better Punk/Oi!/whatever songs. My favorites are Heart Like A Lion, Never 'Ad Nothin', Strength Thru Oi!, and awesome Pride & Glory. I love that rap kind of singing in Pride & Glory! Second to last, Blue Collar, wasn't a total ace as the rest of songs, but I won't whine about it. The last song, So Ends Our Night is a cover by Last Rights.

I have to say to all of you who haven't heard this band before: BUY THIS RECORD, LISTEN TO IT, AND SING ALONG! And if some of the guys from Pressure Point are reading this: IF YOU'RE COMING TO EUROPE, PLEASE COME TO FINLAND AND SHOW US HOW YOU DO PUNK/OI!/ROCK!
