Widely distributed in South America: Brazil, except the most South and East; North Paraguay; East Bolivia; East Peru; East Columbia and in the North to Panama; South Venezuela; Trinidad; Guyana; Surinam and French Guyana. The distribution covers the same areas as the Blue and Gold Macaw.
Tropical lowlands at the borders of the jungle.
Length: 90 cm.
Fruits and nuts; esp. Uxi (Endopleura uchi), Jatoba (Hymenaea spec.) and Bertholletia excelsa.
Plumage general red. White, naked face striped with small red feathers. Wings blue, median wing coverts green. Upper tail coverts blue. Tailfaethers red, turning blue to the end. Bill: Upper mandible horn colored, lower mandible black. Legs grey. Iris ivory colored.
