CHAPTER SIX

“I’m sorry miss but I don’t think we have any work for you at the moment.Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to wait a bit longer and then try again. In the meantime I’ll just register your address so we’ll be able to contact you if we find something suitable for you.” It was Zeba sixth visit already to a one of London’s employment agencies and everytime she got the same answer:that there was no work for her at the moment. She felt miserable, mainly because she knew she couldn’t stay with J and Sean forever, but there still was no happy ending in sight.
Zeba stepped outside the office, letting the warm sunshine fall onto her face.J approached her from behind, whispering a gentle “boo” in her ear.
Zeba turned around and smiled at the man.
“Did it work out?”he asked but Zeba just shook her head in reply.
“They don’t have anything at the moment.”
“You know you can stay with us as long as necessary, right?”
“I know but I can’t stay with you forever.”
Zeba sighed and looked up at J,who just shrugged his shoulders and said”Anyway, let me take you out for lunch.I’m starving.”The girl smiled and grabbed J’s outstretched hand, the two friends walking over to a cafe at the corner of the street…

A man dressed in a blue jumper and black jeans was staring at J and Zeba from the other side of the street, writing down some stuff on a piece of paper at the same time.He watched as the two of them disappeared inside a cafe, closing the door on their way in.The man looked down at the note in his hand, making sure he didn’t forget any important information. He read the words “black Audi TT”,”London based apartment” and “rehearsals at eight” over and over again until they were locked and saved into his mind. Then he walked over to a waiting cab and drove away…

It was late in the evening when Zeba was sitting on J’s bed with a piece of white paper and a pencil in her hands, sketching some stuff while she was obviously lost in her own little world.Ever since she had been a little girl she had been able to put all her emotions and feelings into drawings.Zeba had never been a person to talk about her feelings and her artwork was the only way to get some peace inside her mind.First it had been simple stuff, sometimes trees, other times flowers or animals. But later, when she was old enough to realize that her work was good, she started drawing people, later also creating her own clothes and fashion. It had always been Zeba’s dream to once become a great fashion designer but her past kept her from doing that. Now her sketches were nothing more than just some last traces of a long lost innocence.
Zeba was too lost in her work to hear J entering the room.He just stood in the door for a while, watching the drawings over Zeba’s shoulder, surprised by the beauty of the sketches and the talent of his flatmate. In the end he just couldn’t keep quiet anymore and he said”They are absolutely amazing.”
Zeba dropped her pencil in shock at hearing J’s voice, immediatly trying to hide the drawings.
“Hey,no need to stop because I’m here.”he replied while he sat down on the edge of the bed.Zeba just looked up at J,the person that knew so much about her already. She didn’t know why she should hide the pictures, after all he had already seen them at that moment.
“It are my feelings.”she finally muttered.
“Your feelings?”
“It all started a long time ago,J.I’ve always cherished the dream of becoming a designer but my past with my ex-boyfriend killed that wish completely. Now I’m too old to start an education and I’ll never live what I had hoped to live.”she told J sadly.
“Why?”he suddenly asked.
“What do you mean “why”?”
“Why can’t you live your dream anymore? It’s never too late to start something new.”
Zeba sighed. She knew J was only trying to make her feel better but it wasn’t really working.
“Listen”,J started while he scooted a bit closer to Zeba”We have our own stylist,Lisa, but our tour is starting soon and she needs some help to design and finish the costumes. She still hasn’t found anyone suitable to be her assistant,so the job is still up for grabs.”
“J,why for God’s sake would she chose me?I don’t have any experience in this business.”Zeba exclaimed.Of course she would love to get the job,she just wasn’t confident that Lisa would pick her.
“She would pick you because I recommend you.Me and the other lads like you,a lot,and that’s probably just as important as talent, which you have plenty also. Why don’t you just give it a try? There’s nothing to lose!”
Zeba smiled. It was true:there was nothing to lose.
“Alright then.”
J grinned and embraced Zeba.
“Then you’ll come with me and Sean tomorrow morning to the rehearsals. The sooner this is solved, the better.”he said, feeling totally happy now he could do something again to get Zeba’s life back on the tracks…
