Movie/Show Overall Rating/5 John Time
Strange Frequency:
Cold Turkey (8/25/01)
Comments: I enjoyed this thoroughly. John plays a recovering addict rock star who meets a mysterious woman (Patsy Kensit) - who may be his muse. Yes, he sings and plays guitar. He also does an excellent job of showing the effects of addiction and withdrawal. The makeup people also must be commended, because John and Patsy both look like hell when they should. I mean that as a compliment. I think it would've worked better as an hour show instead of a half-hour, and I didn't really like the ending (I think they should've left off the very last scene), but this is definitely something to see. Like I said, John does a great job, and he really gets a chance to show off his angst-playing skills. I like the guy who plays his friend/bandmate too. Good stuff, especially if you consider it's a made-for-VH1 movie.

Comments: Kiefer Sutherland continues his role as CIA agent Jack Bauer, a man trying to unravel the conspiracy behind a presidential candidate assassination threat, and, at the same time, trying to find his missing teenage daughter. Suspenseful, interesting stuff. John Hawkes plays yet another bad guy, this time one who may be behind the assassination threat. Or, maybe he has something to do with Jack's missing daughter? Who knows? His role in this episodes is relatively small, but he does have a good yellling/gun stand-off scene with Kiefer. Probably important to see this one before catching the next one.

Comments: More of Kiefer and his adventures. John continues his role as bad guy with maybe info on the whereabouts of Kiefer's missing daughter. There are some good scenes here between Kiefer and John - I especially liked the confrontation in the police station. And even though no good meaty emoting scenes are really called for, John does a good job with his character. However, the character itself is kinda pointless. I don't know - I just got the feeling that his character existed solely to put yet another kink in the plot. Although, at the end, he does lead Kiefer to a dead body. So I guess that's important. Anyway, yeah, good show, good action and tension and yelling, all that stuff. Yeah.
