Yurika Chiba was born in Japan and grew up in Toronto surrounded by art and music - her father is a concert flute craftsman and her mother a pianist and painter. Chiba herself is classically trained in piano and voice and is currently studying Japanese taiko drumming in Sonoma County.

Combining elements from traditional Japanese calligraphy and aesthetics, Japanese and English wordplay and her love for both natural and crafted materials, she expresses her experiences of living between two distinct worlds.
