Early Spay/Neuter Facts:
It's a fact:
Furever Animals, Inc. is a firm advocate for early spay/neuter, meaning, sterilization performed on puppies and kittens before they reach puburty. Early sterilization is also endorsed by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and has become an accepted practice by progressive veterinary surgeons throughout the country. Early spay/neuter is replacing surgery at the conventional age of five to six months for several excellent reasons:

1.Early spay/neuter has been proven by many studies to have no detrimental effects on the animal.
      2. Pre-pubertal spay/neuter surgery is safe. Young puppies and kittens tolerate anesthesia and surgery very well. When they wake up from the anesthesia, most puppies and kittens act as if nothing has happened. It may take several days before a mature animal feels normal.
      3. Spay/neuter surgery on young animals is convenient for the surgeon.(Only minor changes in the surgeon's technique are required.)   Puppies and kittens have little body fat and have less tendency to bleed.
      4. Early spay/neuter prevents the development of diseases and misbehaviors related to sexual function. Mammary and testicular cancer, prostate disease, uterine infections, sexual aggression, scent marking and spraying, head a long list of problems that early spay/neuter helps to avoid.

Most important, by spaying and neutering all our animals
before they leave the shelter, we ensure that no Furever Animal will be responsible for adding to the overpopulation problem that remains the greatest killer of dogs and cats, and the major cause of animal pain and suffering.
