(A4) THE CULTURE OF DEATH

The goal of the culture of death is spiritual and physical self destruction. Beware of the corruption of institutions and the resultant corruption of those who belong to those institutions. Roy Hamel said Any institution that transforms vice into virtue is no safe harbor for anybody. ************************************************************************************************************************ People involved in the spiritual or physical destruction of innocent human beings try to make their work look respectable. His commitment to a Gaian way of thinking may be responsible for him being one of the key individuals responible for such recent changes in Canadian Law as generating and implementing the idea of same sex "marriage", attempting to make sodomy sacred, committing Canada to the Kyoto protocol. Reardon ******* As president of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL), Kate Michelman is one of the most powerful pro-abortion "feminists" in the nation. Defending abortion is more than Michelman's job. It is her passion. In defending the "right of women to choose," she is first and foremost defending the choice that she made nearly thirty years ago. ******* In her much-repeated personal testimony, Michelman has described how in 1970, she was abandoned by her husband and left to care for her three young daughters alone. Then, just after her husband left, she found out she was pregnant. ******* As Michelman describes it, her decision to abort was an agonizing one. Because of the social and legal taboos surrounding abortion, she was unable to discuss her decision with anyone not her relatives, her friends, or her priest. As a Catholic, she says, her decision to abort "challenged every religious, moral, ethical and philosophical belief"(1) she held. ******* Like so many other women today, Michelman abandoned those beliefs out of desperation and fear. She was on welfare, with three daughters to raise, and without the support and help of a husband. She felt that she had no choice but abortion because of her impossible circumstances. ******* Abortion was illegal at that time except where the mother's health or life was at stake. This was a broadly interpreted exception, but it required Michelman to appear before an all-male hospital review panel to obtain permission for the abortion on the grounds that she was unstable and incapable of raising another child. The board granted her request provided that her ex-husband also agreed. ******* During the time she was waiting to get permission for the abortion, Michelman carried with her the name and phone number of an illegal abortionist whom she was prepared to contact if she was "thwarted" in her quest for a legal abortion. Since her ex-husband agreed to the abortion, however, she never used that number. But she says that having to obtain permission from the hospital board and her ex-husband for the abortion left her feeling "worthless and violated." (2) ******* As the spokeswoman for NARAL, Michelman uses her personal story to effectively appeal to the empathy of those who truly care about women. She argues not only that women must be free to choose abortion so they can control of their lives, but also that America should never return to the days of illegal and restricted abortions that injured, shamed, and degraded women. ******* MICHELMAN AT RISK ******* Michelman's story is not an unusual one, either for that period or for today. Clearly, it is not the story of an intellectual feminist, liberated from sexual, familial, and religious restraints, who simply took control of her "reproductive destiny." Hers is the story of a woman caught in a trap. ******* Michelman and her three daughters were all emotionally bruised and financially devastated by the husband and father who had abandoned them. Already confronted with poverty, another child would have increased their expenses and been a further drain on the time Michelman needed to raise her daughters and to earn an income. ******* "I had to . . . debate my obligations to my children against my responsibility to the developing life inside me," she has said. (3) Like the Jewish woman in Sophie's Choice who was forced by a Nazi officer to choose which of her children would die so the other could live, Michelman felt she had no choice but to sacrifice one child for the sake of the others. ******* In many respects, Michelman matches the profile for those women who are most at risk of suffering emotional maladjustments after an abortion. She had moral and religious values that were in conflict with the choice to abort, strong feelings of ambivalence in making the decision, strong concerns about secrecy, prior children, a poor or unstable relationship with her male partner, and a lack of social support. She did not feel free to choose what was best, but instead felt that abortion was her "only choice" if she and her family were to survive. ******* Given all these risk factors, it is no surprise that Michelman felt "worthless and violated" after her abortion. It is also not surprising that she, like many women who had abortions prior to Roe v. Wade, has projected the blame for her negative feelings on social circumstances, the attitudes of the day, and the illegal status of abortion. ******* HER BENEDICTION ******* Perhaps her most revealing comment to date was during a speech to the Commonwealth Club of California in January 1998. Michelman said that when she had learned that the Supreme Court had legalized abortion, "I was quite overcome. It felt somehow like a benediction a retroactive reprieve that helped restore my sense of worth, my integrity." She described Roe v. Wade as "the promise that emerged from darkness to light. From despair to hope." (4) ******* The emotional importance of the Supreme Court's decision to Michelman is not incidental. Indeed, it is very revealing that a woman who felt alienated from her religion because of her abortion would describe the Court's approval of abortion as a "benediction." To a former Catholic like Michelman, "benediction" refers to the highest and most profound form of blessing by Christ Himself. For her, the Court's decision was a substitute for the religious blessing she needed to restore her moral identity. ******* Moreover, the Court's "retroactive reprieve" affirmed that she had done nothing wrong. Therefore, she had no reason to repent. Her shame and guilt had been for nought. Her painful decision to abort was not only accepted by the highest judges in our society, but it was even enshrined as a Constitutional right! ******* When one empathizes with Michelman's conflict over an abortion decision that violated her "every religious, moral, ethical, and philosophical belief," it is easy to see why she and thousands of other women like her have clung to the Roe decision as a vindication of their moral selves. ******* The emotional value of this legal ruling also explains why Michelman and other post-abortive women are so angry at those seeking to reverse Roe. For them, this would be more than a political set back. On an internal, emotional level, overturning Roe would remove the "benediction" that they have received for choosing what even Michelman herself admits is a "bad thing." (5) ******* CLINGING TO APPROVAL ******* No one loves abortion, but everyone yearns for approval. It is the insatiable desire for social approval which drives some post-abortive women and men to battle for abortion rights. They will never be content with merely legal access to abortion. What they long for is universal approval of abortion. ******* By immersing themselves in the political fight over abortion, post-abortive women and men are satisfying several psychological needs. First, they are surrounding themselves with like-minded activists who reinforce the rightness of their decision. Second, each time they see other women choose abortion, they experience it as a reaffirmation their own decision.(6) Third, they are diverting negative internal feelings into outward expressions of righteous anger. ******* As Magda Denes, a post-abortive woman and pro-choice psychologist, has observed, it is easier for a post-abortive woman to "regard oneself as a martyr and to battle the world" of anti-abortion enemies than to confront the "private sorrows" and the "heartache of self-chosen destiny" which are inherent to the abortion experience.(7) In the heat of battle with an outside force, one can avoid examining one's own self-inflicted wounds. ******* This is why Michelman honestly does not understand how abortion today is STILL causing women so much pain and grief. Blinded by the "benediction" she received in the form of Roe v. Wade, she honestly believes that the shame and loss that is inherent to abortion can be wiped away by social approval. She wants to believe it. She needs to believe it. ******* The truth, however, is that social acceptance of abortion can never sanitize what is inescapably a life-destroying experience. As Denes rightly realizes, even if every critic of abortion was silenced, even if every person on earth approved of abortion as a pragmatic necessity, the "private sorrows" would still remain. ******* In the end, self-worth that is rooted merely in social acceptance will fail. The only firm foundation for our human dignity lies in the fact that we are children of God. Even when we fail, our one certain hope is that God will never turn away a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 34). He loves us. And when we cast aside the straw of our excuses, and lift up the gold of Christ's sacrifice, He will heal us and restore our joy. ******* There are many former abortion advocates like Carol Everett, Norma McCorvey, Dr. Beverly McMillan, and Dr. Tony Levatino who became "converts" to the pro-life cause because they experienced the love of pro-lifers. This should remind us that those who are most outspoken in defense of Roe v. Wade are really crying out for acceptance. If we are to convert a nation, we must, as ambassadors of Christ's mercy and love, accept and embrace them. ******* ------------------------------------------------------------ Originally published in The Post-Abortion Review, Vol. 7, No. 1, Jan.-March 1999. This report by me was an eye witness report - I was present at the sentencing.) ******* Abortionist Brian Finkel was sentenced this morning, (1-2-04) to almost 35years in prison plus 99 years probation to begin when his incarceration ends. His sentencing took place in front of a courtroom filled with media personnel, victims and a few persons from the community. Finkel's wife, flanked by 2 physician friends, sat in the front row. ******* The Lifetime probation requires Finkel to never work in the medical field again, pay $50 a month for life for probation fees, register in the national sexual offenders database, never drink alcoholic beverages and to inform any future employer of his conviction as a sexual offender. ******* Finkel was being sentenced for the 22 counts of sexual abuse (out of 67) for which the jury found him guilty. ******* Speeches were made by both attorneys, Finkel himself and then the judge before the sentence was delivered. ******* Finkel stated that he wasn't guilty of sexual abuse and was 'just doing his job', being thorough as a gynecologist, a position echoed by his attorney. When Judge Cates, the presiding judge, asked him if he felt any remorse, he stated that he did feel remorse that the victims had been traumatized by the trial and that he felt guilt that they had misunderstood his efforts to take 'good care' of them. He also admitted he might have been too blunt or even rude when counseling them about their bad relationships and poor life choices and explained that he had been stressed due to being "constantly terrorized" by "domestic terrorists. (his strong implication here was referring to the pro lifers who prayed the Rosary every Saturday morning outside his clinic. His "terror" of these "frightening" people did not stop him from making rude remarks to them and taunting them). ******* Finkel's attorney requested a mitigation of sentence citing "no criminal record" and their allegation that Finkel had been working in a very stressful environment (alluding to the "Domestic terrorists"). He reminded the court that Finkel had helped thousands of women in the valley. ******* Before sentencing, a laborious procedure as each count of a class 5 felony was sentenced separately, Judge Cates had some words of his own to say. He told the court he did not know of any "Domestic Terrorists" and that the victims had not been terrorized by the trial but rather by what Finkel did to them. Judge Cates denied the request for mitigation of sentence, pointing out that although Finkel did not have a criminal record, he had been performing criminal acts for the past 15 years and just had not gotten caught. He also quipped that he did not feel Finkel had been convicted because of being rude - had that been the case, Finkel would have been found guilty on all 66 counts originally brought to trial. ******* Brian Finkel is planning on appealing the decision but a reversal of the verdict is unlikely since Judge Cates took care to make sure the trial was run very well. ******* Victims were in court watching as Finkel, dressed in a striped jail outfit, received his sentence. Several of them were somewhat pleased with the sentence but felt it did not make up for the suffering they were still experiencing in their lives as a result of his having his way with them while they were in a most vulnerable position, on the table with their legs in stirups. Most including Judge Cates expressed some concern that Dr. Finkel seemed to show no remorse for the crimes he had committed as well as no remorse for the psychological and physical damage caused the victims. The Judge remarked that Finkel's lack of remorse did not look good for his rehabilitation. ******* Finkel is one of the worst sex offenders among abortionists, having sexually abused at least 100 women (those who came forward). It is estimated that far more women who were abused by Finkel did NOT come forward to tell about it. ******* However, sexual offense among abortionists is more common than the public generally thinks. Mark Crutcher in his book, LIME FIVE, details several documented cases of abortionists who sexually molested women who came to them for abortions. ****************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 4 ABORTION DOES NOT BENEFIT WOMEN ******* by Pia de Solenni ******* From: The Pro-Life Infonet ******* Reply-To: Steven Ertelt ******* Source: WorldNetDaily; June 4, 2002 ******* [Pro-Life Infonet Note: Dr. Pia de Solenni is a policy analyst in the Life Studies department of the Family Research Council.] ******* "What women don't know does hurt them." - Germaine Greer ******* She should know. When she published "The Female Eunuch" in 1972, Germaine Greer advocated a life based on sexual license as the path to personal fulfillment. Greer practiced what she preached in 1972. As a result, she could no longer have a child because her several abortions left her sterile and suffering from other gynecological health problems. ******* Almost 30 years later, at age 50, she wrote "The Whole Woman." While not completely changing her pro-choice stance, Greer argues that abortion is a sign, not of liberation, but of oppression. ******* Evidence of the abuses conducted within and by abortion clinics confirms Greer's view. ******* In April 1998, Lou Anne Herron hemorrhaged to death three hours after the abortion of her 26-week-old unborn child. She was still at the A-Z Women's Center when she died. Clinic staffers waited until they could barely perceive a heart beat to call 911. Dr. John Biskind, who had performed the abortion, left the clinic earlier even though he knew his patient was still bleeding excessively. ******* Prior to Herron's death, seven lawsuits filed locally named the clinic, Biskind and clinic owner Dr. Moshe Hachamovitch. By this time, Biskind had already miscalculated the fetal age of another unborn child and delivered the 26-week-old girl alive. Despite his history of incompetence, Biskind was still performing abortions when Herron sought his services in 1998. ******* In another example, former abortion provider Carol Everett recalls the time a 21-year-old patient "danced in" to get her "problem taken care of." Everett was assisting in the abortion when the doctor punctured the patient's uterus and pulled her bowel through. ******* ABC's "20/20" interviewed Dr. Brian Finkel in 1999. Although Dr. Finkel himself performed abortions, he admitted that the majority of abortions are done by doctors who have "as marginal a facility as possible to maximize profit." ******* Later, Finkel himself was charged with 67 sex crimes against his patients. After the first indictment, the district attorney's office received calls from more than 100 women alleging abuse from Finkel. ******* Isolated incidents or just the tip of the iceberg? It might shock many Americans to learn that such information is hard to find. The U.S. currently has no mandatory abortion reporting requirements, but anecdotal evidence and personal testimonies increasingly portray a situation that is anything but pro-woman. Despite the incidents of malpractice and abuse, the $90 billion abortion industry remains largely unregulated. ******* Prior to Roe vs. Wade, abortion advocates argued that legalized abortion would be safer for women because it would be regulated. But from the beginning, the safety of women having abortions was not tracked. ******* One would think that after all the hype about safe and legal abortion, abortionists would be ready and willing to prove how "safe" it is. However, in 1978 - just five years after abortion was legalized - a Chicago Sun-Times report on the Chicago-area abortion industry found that, although the Illinois Department of Public Health gave statistics on the age, race and marital status of every woman who received an abortion in the area since 1973, it did not provide information on abortion-related deaths. Thus, it was impossible to know whether Roe had actually made abortion safe for women. ******* Between 1984 and 1994, IDPH was prohibited from mandating abortion reporting by a temporary restraining order. Today, pursuant to court order, IDPH cannot make public the number of abortion deaths per year unless it is greater than 50. Apparently, the needless deaths of 51 women would be cause for concern, but 50 would not. It's impossible to judge whether a procedure is safe if all deaths from the procedure need not be reported. ******* Data collection for abortion-related deaths is not governed by a consistent, uniform standard. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collects abortion statistics on a voluntary basis from state and local health departments and medical care providers. In a 2000 abortion surveillance report, complete information for key states like California and Florida is not included. According to the pro-abortion Alan Guttmacher Institute, about 20 percent of all abortions in the U.S. take place in California. The "Morbidity and Mortality" report of the CDC data gives no information on abortion-related deaths and injuries. ******* Currently, veterinary clinics in the state of New York are required to follow more guidelines than abortion clinics. For instance, a woman who decides to have an abortion will be attended by a clinic worker who may not even satisfy the criteria necessary to handle her dog at an animal hospital. ******* The California Senate is currently considering a bill to remove the provision that only a holder of a physician's and surgeon's certificate may perform abortions. The bill sets no criteria for uncredentialed abortion providers, putting women in danger yet again. ******* Despite the rhetoric that accompanied Roe vs. Wade, abortion today is unsafe and unregulated, marked too often by injured and dying women, unregulated clinics, and uncertified practitioners. ******* Abortion is legal - but Greer and others bear the scars, which show it isn't safe. Like Greer, we should ask just how pro-woman abortion really is if the industry isn't even subject to basic regulation. ******* The Pro-Life Infonet is a daily compilation of pro-life news and information. Fraser told Henrico Circuit Judge L.A. Harris Jr., "I would first like to apologize to you and the people of Virginia for this lack of judgment." ******* Fraser, 58, noted that the Virginia Board of Medicine will revoke his license to practice medicine because of the earlier suspension and his conviction in June on four felony counts of practicing medicine without a license. That means he will never be able to practice medicine anywhere in the United States, Fraser said. ******* "I accept this as punishment for this lack of judgment," he added. ******* Under state law, a physician can ask the Board of Medicine to restore his license a year after a revocation. ******* His attorney, C. David Whaley, asked Harris not to incarcerate Fraser. Fraser has never even had a parking ticket and had no previous problems with the Board of Medicine, Whaley said. ******* He added that Fraser had been working as motel night clerk after the license suspension but lost that job as a result of publicity about his case. ******* Harris responded, "This is an affront to the entire system, not just the individual people involved. Everyone has to assume that a medical professional is properly licensed and qualified." ******* The judge then sentenced Fraser to three years in prison on each of the four counts but suspended all but one month on each charge. Harris allowed Fraser to begin his sentence next Tuesday. ******* The Board of Medicine suspended Fraser's license without a hearing on Feb. 8. The suspension was based on an allegation that he mishandled an abortion on Nov. 20 at the Commonwealth Women's Clinic abortion facility in Falls Church on Nov. 20. ******* The Virginia Board of Health Professions contended that the summary suspension was necessary to protect the public because Fraser perforated the woman's uterus and damaged her bowel during the abortion. The injury required emergency treatment that resulted in removal of her uterus. ******* The department's complaint said Fraser did not explain to the patient, who did not speak English, why he sent her to the hospital. Fraser abandoned her by not sending enough documentation to explain her condition and failed to communicate with physicians after hospital staff tried to get in touch with him, the department explained. ******* When the department investigated, Fraser made "numerous inconsistent statements and medical-record entries," according to the complaint. ******* A board representative notified Fraser personally of the suspension late in the day on Friday, Feb. 7. ******* The abortions had been scheduled previously for the next afternoon at Capital Women's Health Clinic abortion facility and Fraser performed them without saying anything about the suspension to staff members who assisted him. ******* Fraser was paid $1,440 for the abortions and told staff members that he would not be at the abortion business on Monday. He never returned, and the owner of the abortion business said she learned of the suspension only after the operator of an out-of-state abortion facility told her that Fraser had applied for work there. ******* Karen Perrine, deputy executive of the board, said the board has changed its procedures to make sure that employers of suspended physicians are notified promptly. ******* -- The Pro-Life Infonet is a daily compilation of pro-life news and information. Even those within so-called "committed" gay relationships have an average of eight partners a year. ******* The findings are similar to other research that consistently finds gay relationships to be transitory and promiscuous. Mike Haley, a former homosexual who is manager of the gender issues department at Focus on the Family, said gay men are looking for love in all the wrong places. ******* "When you're taking an unmet emotional need that's being met in a sexual way, that sexual need will never meet that emotional need, and that's why we see these relationships falling apart over and over and over again," Haley said. ******* Instead of working to change their behavior, homosexuals in the gay culture have redefined it as "normal." ******* "They've now coined a new phrase that they call 'serial monogamy,' " Haley said. "What that means is, 'I will stay monogamous with you as long as I'm with you' knowing that the relationship ultimately does not have much longevity." ******* The gay lobby is trying to do the same thing with marriage. Randall Terry, founder of the Society for Truth and Justice, said the gay activist agenda has little to do with making sure gay people are in happy, committed relationships. ******* "It's about economics, it's about insurance, it's about political power, it's about them having a foothold to make decisions that affect all the rest of us," Terry said. "That's why they've got to be resisted." ******* Terry said it is the Creator of the universe who ultimately defines marriage. ******* "Ultimately, there can never be any such thing as a homosexual marriage," Terry said. Brian Finkel was charged by police with 65 counts of abuse involving 35 women. He is accused of inappropriately touching women before and during examinations and abortions. Finkel claims the touching was inadvertent and done during the normal course of a routine examination. He says he has performed more than 20,000 abortions during his career. Phoenix police audiotaped interviews with four employees of Finkel's, in which they say they saw him sexually abuse patients. In these interviews, the former employees -- including one who worked for him for over 10 years -- say they were afraid to come forward and tell authorities what they say Finkel was doing to the women. The controversy erupted after a Bryan police officer demanded a pro-life military veteran remove his American flag from the public right-of-way in front of an abortion center. The veteran was flying his flag at half-staff in memory of the babies who were being killed at the facility July 9th. According to the Coalition for Life, a pro-life group, the police officer said, "I've been on the phone with our legal department. The flag constitutes a sign and the flag must be taken down. "But pro-life activists believe the move was an attempt at selective enforcement, since city officials initially refused to take similar action to remove other American flags placed in the public right-of-way throughout Bryan. The most recent example of their misleading polemics and obfuscation can be found in an editorial in the July 17, 2003, New England Journal of Medicine, in which the editor-in-chief promises that the Journal will work to help defeat legislative efforts to outlaw human cloning for biomedical research. With this editorial pronouncement, the New England Journal of Medicine effectively ceased to be an objective scientific/medical journal -- at least on the issue of human cloning and embryonic stem-cell research. Hospices don't kill people, some might say; it simply does not happen. Marilyn Martin would beg to differ. Martin's father was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1995. Five years later, his wife put him in a hospice. Within two weeks, he was dead. "The night he died [the hospice] called me," Martin recalled, "I rushed over in the middle of the night and asked what happened. A nurse said that after we had all left, she gave him some morphine to help his breathing. "He wasn't having any trouble breathing. So I knew right away they had just overdosed him." Martin believes her father was killed for money -- specifically, so her mother could inherit some of the millions in his bank account and continue her jet-set lifestyle, unfettered by a debilitated but nonterminal spouse. And she found a hospice that was willing to help her do just that. http://www.lifenews.com/bio190.html ******************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 15 POPE WARNS THAT FEMINISM THREATENS FAMILIES ******* From: Associated Press via "Robert A Jason" ******* Date: Tue, 3 Aug 2004 ******* Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 2004 ******* VATICAN CITY The Vatican assailed radical feminism for what it views as efforts to erase differences between men and women, warning in a document released Saturday that the movement threatens the traditional family based on a mother and a father. ******* Such a push for equality, the Vatican said, makes "homosexuality and heterosexuality virtually equivalent, in a new model of polymorphous sexuality." ******* The warning came in a 37-page document addressed to bishops on the role of women in the church, the latest salvo in a Vatican campaign to protect what it calls the Christian family. It has previously denounced same-sex marriages and called on politicians of all religions to block their legal recognition. ******* Drawn up by the Vatican's orthodoxy chief Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and approved by Pope John Paul II, the document reiterates the Roman Catholic Church's prohibition on women becoming priests but said this in no way hampers a woman's access "to the heart of Christian life." ******* Reflecting John Paul's positions during his 25-year papacy, the document said women should not be stigmatized or penalized financially for wanting to be housewives. "Indeed, a just valuing of the work of women within the family is required." ******* But it also said that women who choose to work should be granted an appropriate work schedule and "not have to choose between relinquishing their family life or enduring continual stress." ******* The document reserved its toughest language for what it called recent "new approaches to women's issues," saying an emerging tendency is that "to avoid the domination of one sex or the other, their differences tend to be denied, viewed as mere effects of historical and cultural conditioning." ******* "The obscuring of the difference or duality of the sexes has enormous consequences on a variety of levels," the document said, asserting it has inspired ideologies that "call into question the family, in its natural two-parent structure of mother and father." ******* It also warned of challenges to fundamentals of church teaching, saying the blurring of differences "would consider as lacking in importance and relevance the fact that the Son of God assumed human nature in its male form." ******* The document "On the Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church in the World" addressed what it said were "certain currents of thought which are often at variance with the authentic advancement of women." Instead, what the church seeks is "active collaboration between the sexes precisely in the recognition of the difference between man and woman." ******* In stressing that men and women are different, the document said, "From the first moment of their creation, man and woman are different, and will remain so for eternity." ******* But it said the "temporal and earthly expression of sexuality is transient," and cited Scripture suggesting that a married couple's existence in heaven would be celibate. ******* Copyright 2004 Bell Globemedia Inc. ********************************************************************************************************* ******* item 16 MEDIA IGNORES PRESIDENT'S COMMEMORATION OF THE DEATHS OF 100 MILLION VICTIMS OF COMMUNISM - By Elizabeth OBrien ******* from "LifeSiteNews" ******* WASHINGTON, DC, 14 June 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) On Tuesday President Bush condemned the past and present evils of communism during the official commemoration of a new memorial. Shaped like a woman holding a flame, the statue was dedicated in honor of over 100 million people who died within just one century as the result of communism. ******* During his commemoration speech, the president said that the number of victims sacrificed to this ideology is staggering. Communism has swept through many nations, including China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, Africa, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Eastern Europe. ******* Bush commented, Some of Communism's victims are well-known. They include a Swedish diplomat named Raoul Wallenberg, who saved 100,000 Jews from the Nazis, only to be arrested on Stalin's orders and sent to Moscow's Lubyanka Prison, where he disappeared without a trace. They include a Polish priest named Father Popieluszko, who made his Warsaw church a sanctuary for the Solidarity underground, and was kidnapped, and beaten, and drowned in the Vitsula by the secret police ******* Addressing a crowd that included ambassadors, diplomats and many who had suffered under communist rule, Bush compared communists to the radical terrorists of September 11, 2001. He also pointed out that the battle for the life of innocent people still continues today. ******* Bush said that We dedicate this memorial because we have an obligation to future generations to record the crimes of the 20th century and ensure they're never repeated. In this hallowed place we recall the great lessons of the Cold War: that freedom is precious and cannot be taken for granted; that evil is real and must be confronted; and that given the chance, men commanded by harsh and hateful ideologies will commit unspeakable crimes and take the lives of millions. ******* Following a burst of applause, the president also stated, By remaining steadfast in freedom's cause, we will ensure that a future American President does not have to stand in a place like this and dedicate a memorial to the millions killed by the radicals and extremists of the 21st century. ******* During his concluding remarks, the president explained that the new memorial is a symbol of hope and freedom. Just like our Statue of Liberty, he said, She reminds us that the flame for freedom burns in every human heart, and that it is a light that cannot be extinguished by the brutality of terrorists or tyrants. ******* And she reminds us that when an ideology kills tens of millions of people, and still ends up being vanquished, it is contending with a power greater than death. She reminds us that freedom is the gift of our Creator, freedom is the birthright of all humanity, and in the end, freedom will prevail. ******* The Soviet Union was the first country to become communist as well as the first to legalize abortion in 1920, under Vladimir Lenin. Abortion has been widely encouraged as a means of womens liberation within communist and former-communist countries. In 2003, for example, 170,000 babies were aborted in Russia within 9 months, and 8000 more were killed than actually born. In 1990, only one baby was born for every three abortions. Russia has one of the highest abortion rates in the world with an estimated 60% of pregnancies ending in abortion. (see http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2002/oct/02102206.html) ******* Within communist China, the one-child policy pressures women into having abortions. One report stated that in the eastern Shandong province, over 120,000 women received abortions or sterilization within a few months.?(see http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/oct/05102602.html) ******* According to Michael Chapman of NewsBusters Media Research Center, American newspapers remained initially silent about reporting the memorial commemoration. Despite the fact that the President was commemorating the deaths of multiple millions and expressing his hopes that no president should mourn the deaths of any other innocents in future, only a few papers mentioned the fact, and even then only in their later pages. ******* Today, however, the media gave widespread coverage of the Chinese governments outrage that was sparked by Bushs condemnation of communism. The Bangkok Post quotes foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang: Some political forces in the United States still use Cold War thinking and aim to provoke conflicts between different ideologies and social systems.?******* We express our strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the statements and actions of the US sideThe United States should stop interfering in the internal affairs of other nations. ******* The US memorial is the exact same figure, says the Bangkok Post, as the Goddess of Democracy, that was constructed and brought into Tiananmen Square, Beijing, by thousands of protestors in 1989. Countless students participated, and hundreds of them died during the Tiananmen Square Massacre on June 4 when Communist government tanks rolled over people in the square. Despite the fact that China is still communist, the protest remains one of the most significant public stands for freedom and democracy. ******* See Related Coverage: ******* Forced Abortion Still a Reality in China?http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/may/05052706.html ******* Six Out of 10 Pregnancies End in Abortion in Russia?http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2002/oct/02102206.html ******* Russian Abortion Killing and Sterilizing Millions?http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/apr/05041209.html ******* Abortion Encouraged in Ukraine as Unborn Babies Used for Russian Beauty Treatments http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/may/05052411.html ******* Read Bushs Memorial Address?http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/06/20070612-2.html# *********************************************************************************************************
