John and his family moved, about 1860, from Canada to Leelanau County, MI, where on 02 Jan 1863 he filed land entry application number 54 at Traverse City, MI for lot number 4 and the south half of the SE Quarter of Section 31 in Township 29N, containing 128 55/100 acres. On 01 Nov 1869 Patent number 28 issued. They lived there the remainder of their lives. John died 28 Dec 1895 and Bridget died 26 Apr 1896. They are buried side by side at Tobin Cemetery, "the Catholic Cemetery by the narrows".

John and Bridget had the following children:

1. Roderic DUNN. Roderic, also a homesteading settler, was born 08 Feb 1845 in Canada and married Cornelia CUMMINGS 16 Nov 1872 at Glen Arbor Township, Leelanau, MI. Roderic died 14 Sept 1914 and is buried at Tobin Cemetery.

2.William DUNN, my great grandfather, was born in 1847 in Canada. He married Mary Almeda BARLOW, the daughter of George BARLOW and Ann DAY, on 01 Aug 1875 at Rock Rapids, WI.

On 03 Mar 1893, William signed a will. He died at Flandreau, Moody, SD 08 Jul 1893 of TB.

3. Annie L. DUNN was born 16 Apr 1848 in Canada. Annie and James SULLIVAN were married 06 Aug 1873. Annie died 19 Mar 1939 and is buried at Cleveland Township, Leelanau, MI.

4. Mary DUNN was born 13 Nov 1850 at New London, Ontario, Canada. She married first: Timothy SULLIVAN, and second Chauncey B. TAYLOR on 15 Nov 1891. Mary died 10 Aug 1931 at Cleveland Township, Leelanau, MI and is buried in the Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.

5. Winifred DUNN was born Feb 1853 in Canada and died 01 Jul 1873 at Cleveland Township, Leelanau, MI.

6. Stephen DUNN was born 25 Dec 1853 in Ontario, Canada and came with his family to the US about 1860.

7. Ellen DUNN was born about 1857.

8. James DUNN was born Mar 1859 in Canada and died 14 Apr 1954 at Glen Harbor Township, Leelanau, MI.

9. Eliza DUNN was born Jan 1862 at Glen Arbor Township, Leelanau, MI. She married Michael KARNS.
