Welcome to the place I (Sal) work at....

We have a staff of 10-15 adults overlooking as "job coaches" to about 60-70 "clients", who work throughout the community in various ways (look down below).

What we all do?

FACILITY-COMPOUND

ARTS & CRAFTS ROOM

All sorts of arts&crafts related items can be purchased at DAC. For example, we have specific themes for that special occasions (e.g. weddings)...

We got a proffessional cook, who does other unrelated cooking duties to help out!

Client helps puts silverware together prior to lunchtime (12p-1p)

WORKSHOP

-Buttons

We've made buttons for various events (e.g. Stevens County Fair) for different community groups (e.g. Chokio-Alberta High School)

-Corn

We pack bags of corn (12+) into boxes to be shipped to stores for squirrel feed

-Recycling


All types of aluminum cans (47 cents per pound and 49 cents per pound over 100lbs)

Newspapers (drop boxes around town)
UMM Plant Services: Recycling Center hauls cans regularly!


Almost every 6 months/twice a year, we get a group from the Morris Area High School-National Honor Socieity-to help load the 6-7ft tall piles of recycled material (e.g. newspapers, papers, etc..) into a semi-truck (2 1/2-3 hours of labor work)*picture taken Thursday, November 16th of 2006

Depending on the holiday season, these "guys" keep busy all year round smoothing wood cut or designed by DAC staff.

We service the following local businesses:
-Key Row Apartments
-Morris Movie Theater

Clients clean (e.g. clean bathrooms, vaccuum/mop floors, empty garbages,etc...) the theater
-Pederson Funeral Home
-Morris Senior Center (as of summer of 2007)
-Laundromat (corner of E. 7th Street and College Avenue)

-Miscellaneous Work
We have our clients do a variety of work:
-St. Francis: Villa
-University of Minnesota: Food Service
-Pizza Hut

OUTSIDE OF THE COMMUNITY

-Red Ball in Benson, MN
-City of Benson (e.g. paint fire hydrants)
-Sax's Cafe in Donnelly, MN

College Internship Opportunities

We get UMM college students do internships here for college credit at times. Our most recent was Mike W. (5th year student, who actually graduated last year) from Buffalo, MN...

-November 14th 2006 "KSAX Visit" (Channel 5 from Alexandria interviews DAC folks on what goes on here)
-December 14th 2006 "Annual Christmas Tea Party" (families, community, group home staff, etc.. are invited)
-December 16th 2006 "Weekend Trip to Wilmar" for clients and staff that were not able to attend the Chanhassan Trip in September.
-December 19th 2006 "Annual DAC Christmas Party" (DAC clients and staff)
-February "Winter Storms closes DAC 2-days (24th-25th)in a row!
-"March Madness 2007" Hancock Girls Basketball Team made it to their sections State Championship-ooh rah!
-April 29th "DAC Board and Staff" Supper at Best Northland Inn's Ranch House
-May 7th 2007 "Annual ARC Potluck-starring Paul Martin of Willies on the barbeque.

A rainbow is sighted by one of the City of Morris Transit Drivers on a "spring-like" weather in the second week of November early morning dropping the residents off. What a beautiful sight!
