We first heard of Special Touch Ministry in 1998. So we visited the "Minnesota-Summer-Get Away Camp" at Lake Geneva Christian Center at Alexandria (45 miles north east of us).
There we met Charlie Chivers and others connected with the ministry. We had informational material sent to us explaining the whole ministry-chapters, conferences, housing, etc...
We've spoke to parents and caregivers who were interested in forming some type of ministry and outreach to the physical and mental disabled.
-2001
Our first Cove meeting was held September 2001, which we had 9 people in attendance.
Our first meetings were held at a conference room of Living Water Ministries of Morris. Included were-Special Touch information, camps, Sunday School material, testimonies, snacks, and fellowship.
Cool Facts
-Guests and caregivers have accepted Christ during worship and messages given at Special Touch.
-We have people coming from 5 different communities now. They include people in group homes, apartments, and those living with their families.
-Each year more Special Touch Chapter guests have been attending the Summer-Get-Away. Approximately, there will be 8 this year (2008).
-Our events are generally the first Saturday of the month from 1-3:30 pm. Majority of the time held at the multi-purpose room at Hosanna Worship Center. Other locations: bowling alley, parks, etc...
-Attendance averages 20-35, but as high as 72!
-We've had the privilege to present Special Touch Ministry at a yearly Parent Retreat Conference for the handicapped in Alexandria, MN since 2003.
-We occasionally have a Sunday School breakfast and class at various restaurants in Morris. Our attendance ranges from 8-12.
