The Stacy Family



Benjamin Stacy was born around 1793. In the 1850 census of Hickman County, Kentucky, he was married to Nancy, age 53. Nancy was born around 1797 in South Carolina. They had four children listed as living at home: Harrison age 23, Henderson age 18, William age 14 and Preston age 10. (This information on Benjamin has not been confirmed but he is thought to be our Harrison's father.)

Harrison Stacy was born in 1826 in Hickman County, Kentucky. He married Francis Nipper in Hickman Co. Kentucky on December 12, 1852. Francis was born in 1836 in Tennessee.

They had three children:

William Thomas Stacy was born on October 22, 1857 in Kentucky. His places of residences were listed as Kentucky, Arkansas and Oklahoma. William married Sarah Sophia Hughey. William died in Oklahoma City on August 6, 1929 and is buried at Sunnylane Cemetery in Harrah, Oklahoma. His residence at the time of his death was Harrah, Oklahoma. His occupation was a farmer, according to his death certificate. He was also a Baptist preacher. Sophia was born on February 17, 1860 in Arkansas. She died on February 18, 1937 and is buried in Checotah, Oklahoma.

They had seven children:
1. Jasper Stacy...Born about 1882 in Arkansas. Died on April 4, 1928 in Arkansas.
2. Minnie Stacy.....Born January 3, 1884 in Pope County, Arkansas. Married William Brown on March 4, 1902. Died April 2, 1928.
3. Cloia Mae Stacy....Born February 12, 1887. Died October 21, 1962. Married Charley Columbus Mc Daniel November 13, 1902 in Missouri. Cloia died oct 21, 1962. Charley Died November 5, 1964. Charley's father was William McDaniel born December 16, 1849.

Alfred Harrison Stacy was born on March 24, 1895 in Harrison, Arkansas. He married Mary Rosetta Ann Birge on August 13, 1911 in Arkansas.The family had moved from Arkansas to Oklahoma around 1929. Alfred died on November 24, 1965 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Rosetta died on September 30, 1978 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are both buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, McIntosh County, Oklahoma.

They had ten children:

John Thomas Stacy was born on September 4, 1917 in Scranton, Arkansas. Jake was a fence builder most of his life and a carpenter in his later years. He had very little formal education as he had to quit school to work. His family was living on the Needham farm when he met Margaret Needham. They were married a few years later in early 1940 at Checotah, Oklahoma shortly before Margaret graduated from high school.

Jake and Margaret lived in Oklahoma until they moved to Odessa, Texas in 1957. They moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas for a few years then moved back to Checotah, Oklahoma. They ended up back in Texas in the 1970's. They both died while living in Ore City, Texas and are buried at Coffeeville Cemetery in Upshur County. Jake died on July 20, 1978 in Ore City, Texas. Margaret died on January 11, 1980 in Longview, Texas.

They had five daughters:
1. Wanda Marcella Stacy....Born Checotah, Oklahoma November 10, 1940.
2. Wilma Jean Stacy...Born Checotah, Oklahoma January 29, 1942. Died January 31, 1997 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas. Buried at Coffeeville Cemetery in Ore City, Texas.

4. Janet Susan Stacy.....Born Broken Arrow, Oklahoma February 20, 1947.

Henry Hughey was born in 1807 in North Carolina . His parents moved to Tennessee when he was two years old. He Married in 1832 in Lincoln County Tennessee to Ann Wilson, Daughter of James Wilson and Margaret McElroy.

Their first 3 children were born in Tennessee:
1. William Brice Hughey...Born October 29, 1832. Married Amanda Jane Deshields around 1856 in Carroll County, Arkansas.

3. Mary Louisa Hughey...Born April 2, 1836 in Lincoln Co Tennessee. Married Richard Carlisle Wilson (her cousin) in 1860 in Carroll County, Arkansas. They Had 3 children: Riley, born in 1861, Frank, born in 1863, and Dovie Ann, born in 1865. Mary died in 1866 in Polk County, Missouri and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery there.

In 1838 Henry and Ann moved to the Crooked Creek Township in Carroll County, Arkansas. Henry purchased 6 acres of land there in 1839. Their other 3 children were born there.

4. James Sanford P. Hughey....Born 1839 shortly after his parents arrived in Arkansas. Married Elizabeth Lipps, a widow with 3 children in 1862 . James And Elizabeth had 3 children of their own: Estella born in 1864, James Robert born in 1866, and Jasper F. born in 1870.
5. Albert A. "Tobe" Hughey....Born April 26, 1841 in Carroll County, Arkansas. Married Mary Holmes. Their children were: H.N. Grace, Lorene, Mary, Ruby, Sarah and M.N. Albert died on April 4, 1916 and is buried in the Enon Cemetery. Mary is also Buried there.
6. Robert Henry Hughey...Born 1843 in Carroll County Arkansas. On the 1860 census he was 16 and living with his mother. No further Record Found of him.

Henry died of Pneumonia in 1847 and Ann lived the rest of her life there in Carroll County Arkansas and died between 1870 and 1880.


Alfred Wilson (Dick) Hughey was born on August 2, 1834 in Lincoln, Tennessee. He married on December 31, 1854 in Crooked Creek, Carroll County, Arkansas to Susan Jane Call, daughter of Uriah Call. Susan was born on October 12, 1836. She died on October 21, 1921. Dick died on February 1, 1917. He was a Civil War Veteran in the Arkansas 13th Infantry Regiment. They are both burried at Loback Cemetery near Alpena, in Boone County, Arkansas.

Their children were:
1. George Washington Hughey...Born March 31, 1856. Married Leona Tharpe. Second wife was Mandy Nowland.
2. Julia Ann Hughey...Born September 21, 1858. Married L.D. Gullick. They divorced. Died in Ponotoc County, Oklahoma.

The Wilson Branch

William Wilson...Tradition has it that William was a Captain in the Revolutionary War and he was sent to Kentucky to protect the citizens from Indains. It is said he was an intimate friend of Daniel Boone.

On March 6, 1790 William was captured by Indains. He was deheaded and the Cherokees rode off with his head atop a pole. This was witnessed by his son *James Wilson, who was then 17 yrs old. James recovered the Body and buried it, keeping the facts from his Mother.


James Wilson was born May 27, 1773 in South Carolina. James settled in Lebanon, Marion County, Kentucky in 1789. He married Margaret 'Peggy' McElroy on June 19, 1794 in Marion County. Margaret was born on July 7, 1773. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Irvine McElroy. Margaret died on September 26, 1834 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. James Wilson died June 2, 1859 in Washington County, Arkansas. He Is Buried in the Mt. Comfort Cemetery near Fayetteville.

James and Margaret had 14 children. The first 13 were born in Kentucky.

William Call, Sr. was born December 15, 1757 in Durston, Somersetshire, England.He married Eleanor "Nelly" NMN after 1788 in Union District, South Carolina. She was born around 1765. They both died after 1840, possibly in Williamson County, Tennessee.

They had the following children:

2. William Call, Jr.....Born about 1798. Died after 1880.

Uriah Call was born July 15, 1811. He married Sarah Cox in 1835 in Bedford, Tennessee. Sarah was born March 27, 1810 in Tennessee. Her parents were Caleb Cox and Nancy Allen. Uriah and Sarah were living in Carroll County, Arkansas in 1850, according to the Federal Census. Uriah died January 8, 1894. Sarah died September 4, 1875. They are both buried at Bullington Cemetery in Barry County, Missouri.

Susan and Alfred are buried side by side in Alpena Cemetery in Boone County, Arkansas.

John Thomas Stacy was born on September 4, 1917 in Scranton, Arkansas. Jake was a fence builder most of his life and a carpenter in his later years. He had very little formal education as he had to quit school to work. His family was living on the Needham farm when he met Margaret Needham. They were married a few years later in early 1940 at Checotah, Oklahoma shortly before Margaret graduated from high school.

Jake and Margaret lived in Oklahoma until they moved to Odessa, Texas in 1957. They moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas for a few years then moved back to Checotah, Oklahoma. They ended up back in Texas in the 70's. They both died while living in Ore City, Texas and are buried at Coffeeville Cemetery in Upshur County. Jake died on July 20, 1978 in Ore City, Texas. Margaret died on January 11, 1980 in Longview, Texas.

They had five daughters:

4. James Sanford P. Hughey...Born 1839 shortly after his parents arrived in Arkansas. Married Elizabeth Lipps, a widow with 3 children in 1862 . James And Elizabeth had 3 children of their own: Estella born in 1864, James Robert born in 1866, and Jasper F. born in 1870.
5. Albert A. "Tobe" Hughey...Born April 26, 1841 in Carroll County, Arkansas. Married Mary Holmes. Their children were: H.N. Grace, Lorene, Mary, Ruby, Sarah and M.N. Albert died on April 4, 1916 and is buried in the Enon Cemetery. Mary is also Buried there.
6. Robert Henry Hughey...Born 1843 in Carroll County Arkansas. On the 1860 census he was 16 and living with his mother. No further Record Found of him.

Henry died of Pneumonia in 1847 and Ann lived the rest of her life there in Carroll County Arkansas and died between 1870 and 1880.

John Irvine was born in 1710 in Larne, Ireland. He immigrated with his wife Mary Boyd, probably about 1730. Mary was born in 1712 in Ireland. It is said that John and Mary's voyage was made "without storm or tempest" although whales nearly overturned the ship at one point, and that John and Mary's first child, Abraham, was born during the voyage. John and Mary initially settled in Pennsylvania and moved their young family south to Virginia in the late 1730s, where they were the first settlers at Hat Creek, in what is now Campbell County.

Sarah Sophia Hughey was born on February 17, 1860 in Arkansas. Sophia married William Thomas Stacy. Sophia lived with her daughter Cloia in her last years. She died on February 18, 1937 and is buried in Checotah, Oklahoma. William died on August 6, 1929 and is buried in Sunnylane Cemetery at Harrah, Oklahoma.

They had seven children:
1. Jasper Stacy...Born about 1882 in Arkansas. Died on April 4, 1928 in Arkansas.
2. Minnie Stacy.....Born January 3, 1884 in Pope County, Arkansas. Married William Brown on March 4, 1902. Died April 2, 1928.
3. Cloia Mae Stacy....Born February 12, 1887. Married Charley Columbus McDaniel on November 13, 1902 in Missouri. Cloia died oct 21, 1962. Charley was born in Missouri on June 17, 1885. He died November 5, 1964. Charley's father was William McDaniel born December 16, 1849.

7. Alvin Stacy....Born October 28, 1901 in Pope Co Arkansas. Died in June 1921.


Alfred Harrison Stacy was born on March 24, 1895 in Harrison, Arkansas. He married Mary Rosetta Ann Birge on August 13, 1911 in Arkansas.The family had moved from Arkansas to Oklahoma around 1929. Alfred died on November 24, 1965 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Rosetta died on September 30, 1978 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are both buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, McIntosh County, Oklahoma.

They had ten children:
1. Eual Henry Stacy....Born July 10, 1913 in Logan County, Arkansas. Married Teddy Strickland. Died August 1, 1980 in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
2. Homer Harrison Stacy....Born June 15, 1915 in Logan County, Arkansas. Married Faye Maybelle Mann. Died August 23, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

4. Thelma Leona Stacy....Born April 27, 1920 in Arkansas. Married Wesley Alvie Mann. Died October 4, 1981 in Checotah, Oklahoma.
5. Della Mae Stacy....Born January 29, 1923 in Logan County, Arkansas. Married Clifford Harper. Clifford died March 31, 1974 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Later Della married Cecil Finch.
6. Doyle Otto Stacy....Born April 2, 1925 in Scranton, Arkansas. Married Willie Nell Ellis. Died September 5, 1998 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
7. Loyle Lee Stacy....Born July 23, 1927 in Russellville, Arkansas. Married Deana Sue Trisler. Died May 10, 1969 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
8. Lula Bell Stacy....Born June 7, 1931 in Checotah, Oklahoma. Married Jimmy Garrison.
9. Margie Dean Stacy....Born September 21, 1933 in Checotah, Oklahoma. Married Harold Roat. Margie died May 27, 2006.
10.Shirley Ann Stacy....Born February 20, 1939 in Checotah, Oklahoma. Married John Bates.


John Thomas Stacy was born on September 4, 1917 in Scranton, Arkansas. Jake was a fence builder most of his life and a carpenter in his later years. He had very little formal education as he had to quit school to work. His family was living on the Needham farm when he met Margaret Needham. They were married a few years later in early 1940 at Checotah, Oklahoma shortly before Margaret graduated from high school.

Jake and Margaret lived in Oklahoma until they moved to Odessa, Texas in 1957. They moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas for a few years then moved back to Checotah, Oklahoma. They ended up back in Texas in the 70's. They both died while living in Ore City, Texas and are buried at Coffeeville Cemetery in Upshur County. Jake died on July 20, 1978 in Ore City, Texas. Margaret died on January 11, 1980 in Longview, Texas.

They had five daughters:
1. Wanda Marcella Stacy....Born Checotah, Oklahoma November 10, 1940.
2. Wilma Jean Stacy...Born Checotah, Oklahoma January 29, 1942. Died January 31, 1997 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas. Buried at Coffeeville Cemetery in Ore City, Texas.
3. Betty Jane Stacy...Born Checotah, Oklahoma September 11, 1943.
4. Janet Susan Stacy.....Born Broken Arrow, Oklahoma February 20, 1947.
5. Phyllis Ann Stacy...Born Tulsa, Oklahoma June 29, 1948. Died October 27, 2007 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas. Buried at Coffeeville Cemetery in Ore City, Texas.
