Horizon's 1/20th scale
Elasmosaurus
Rating:  Good (7)
Unfortunately, Horizon went out of business a few years ago, but they definitely produced some decent dinosaur kits, including this 1/20th scale Elasmosaurus--a 45 foot long sea reptile.  Wildly successful creatures, these beasts came in many subspecies and are an interesting subject (though they present some display problems because they won't "stand" up).

The kit is vinyl and rather old now (early 90s), so the main problem is that the parts had to be heated to make edges match, and even then, the vinyl really wants to go back to its former shape (or misshape as the case may be.)  With only 8 parts it is not too much of a challenge and offers some interesting drama when displayed.  I like it despite the problems.
LEFT:  A snapshot of the inspiration for the kit.  I saw this creature on a fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico and took this shot.  Not to blow my own horn, but I think I matched the colors of the creature pretty well in the model.
BELOW:   is a close up of the head (obviously).  The whole kit is done with airbrushed acrylics.  The eyes are done with a metalic brass and a thin line of  black.
ABOVE:  The rather unruly seam line between the neck and body is still visible in this shot even after a heat treatment and careful packing.  It's too bad, but hey . ..  That's vinyl."
