"Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
I will bring an old black-and-white movie to class and play it with the sound turned off.  The students will split up in groups of three.  Every few minutes, I will call up a different group to improvise lines that go along with the action on-screen.  This is intended to be like a similar game played on the popular comedy game-show, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"

After all groups have gone once, the students will vote informally on
which groups were the funniest and did the best job improvising as a group.  The favorites will perform an encore for the class.

The class will then discuss their own and other groups' performances for humor, whether the dialogue seemed to match what was happening
on-screen, how well each group's dialogue seemed to go together, etc.

Through this activity, the students will gain confidence in their ability to speak extemporaneously.  The humor and connection with a popular comedy program will help put the students at their ease and encourage lively participation.
