GAY REPUBLIC of KEMP LAND |
About Kemp Land
On the frigid continent of Antarctica, lies an astonishing land: thousands of people living and working in what many claim is the world's most daring social experiment. This is the Gay Republic of Kemp Land, which proclaimed independence from Australia on 2nd October 1975. Kemp Land is a benevolent but low-tech dictatorship, led by the Gay Rights Party, and the President, Aubrey McKinnon. The capital is Bonjo Town. Currency: 100 cents = 1 dollar. |
In December 1999, the Kemp Land Post Office won the prestigious "Bad Taste Award" from the UK journal "Stamp Magazine". To read the announcement, click here.

Our country was a colony of Australia, and after independence, was ruled (or mis-ruled) by the Democratic People's Party. During this period, the country was named the People's Democratic Republic of Kemp Land. Only rigged elections with DPP candidates were allowed. Because of the anti-gay discrimination by the DPP, an uprising in 2015 succeeded in deposing the DPP, and former President Eric Gardo fled into exile in the Maldives.

The Geir report (unabridged) (Cinderella Philatelist, 2015-2016.) An abridged version was published over 5 instalments in the UK magazine "The Cinderella Philatelist", which included some photos, but sadly missed too much data to be of much help to serious philatelists. |
In 2015, the Gay Republic was proclaimed, and four older stamps issued by the old regime were overprinted in 2016 to celebrate our new free status.
