About Khaas Kitab Foundation

Home

Khaas Kitaab Foundation was founded in 1997 as a non-profit voluntary organisation dedicated to publishing special books for children. It has published several books since then, including tactile books for children with disabilities. The group consists of specialists from different fields related to children's literature.

The books published by the Foundation are unique in the themes selected and workmanship. They endeavour to promote ideas of peace, non-violence and universal values. As part of the publication process, the Foundation routinely seeks the children's response before accepting the manuscripts for publication. It is not surprising that several titles published by Khaas Kitaab Foundation have received international recognition. We encourage you to look at our Books section.

Manorama Jafa, president of the Foundation, is a well known writer, editorial consultant and an international authority on children's literature. She is also the Director of the Literacy Project of the Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children (AWIC). Under her guidance, AWIC's Literacy Project has prepared books in 8 Indian languages (Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Telegu, Gujarati and English) which have been distributed to a large number of needy children across India. In a project following a devastating earthquake in the state of Gujarat (India) in January 2001, Ms. Jafa led a team to publish and distribute books, as well as set up libraries in 33 schools in earthquake affected areas.

Ms Vinita Krishna, secretary of the Foundation,  is also the director of Tamana, a school for disabled children. For the first time in India, Ms Vinita Krishna has developed tactile books for disabled children. Some of her books have received international recognition.
