Liverpool Fanatic’s Anfield Trip Diary

Day 2, 8 Nov 03 (Saturday):  Academy Tour

Today was supposed to be a free and easy day for the group but the Fan Club managed to arrange for us to visit the Academy at Kirkby. What an experience it turned out to be!

It was a cold and chilly day though, the coldest day in fact during our trip.

When we reach the Academy, the Under 19’s team had just kicked off their game against Bolton Wanderers.  The match ended 2-2. You can get the match report on the official Liverpool website.

We had a briefing on the operations of the Academy and were shown around the premises.

Graduates of the Academy who made it to the first team in Melwood have their portrait photos framed up on the walls in the Academy.  This one here though is a “childhood” snapshot of Michael Owen and David Thompson!

I meant that the ones who made it would have their INDIVIDUAL photos framed up.  Of course the famous ones are Robbie Fowler, McManaman, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard.

We were also taught of the four major principles that the coaching staff look for in the players:  Technique, Attitude, Balance and Speed, as pointed out by me…. hee hee……

Besides training, the students were taught  other lessons such as IT so that they can progress to the next phase of their life if they could not make the grade in professional football

After the tour, my family and I did not join some of the guys in the group to visit the Theatre of “Wet” Dreams.  Nope, no interest at all, the thought of it just make me vomit.

We went to Albert Dock to have lunch.  Adel joined us for lunch and we found out that she was on a working holiday visa for 2 years on the basis of being a “Liverpool Supporter”!!!  Unfortunately the visa are for foreigners of up to 30 years old only….. sigh…….

The Liverpool Maritime Museum and Beatles Story Museum are also located at Albert Dock, 2 other things which Liverpool are famous for.  I have always wanted to know how the Beatles broke up.  If you do not know, find it out yourself if you have the chance to visit Liverpool.
