MANAGERS SHOULD TALK LESS

07.12.02                                                                                                                                       Previous Page          Next Page

Managers should really talk less.  GH has said that there is no doubt that Dudek is (or was?) his number one and there should not be any doubt in the first choice as he should feel safe despite the number two doing well.  After 3 howlers from Dudek, Kirkland, many believed, would take over as the first choice keeper.  If Kirkland does well, GH would find it hard to restore Dudek.  GH has also said that a good team don’t lose twice in a row.  Well, we have lost 2 league games in a row, unless you count in the European games and the Worthington Cup.

Talking about gaffers, who can forget Arsene Wenger?  Who has boasted that the Arsenal would not get whacked throughout the season?  Who predicted boldly that his 2nd team could win the “Worthless” Cup?  Yes, managers should talk less, so should I.  Sigh, I laughed at the “Forlan” talent too early.  Sob! Sob!  But I maintained that he is not as good as he is made out to be by Slur Alex.  Effort wise, 200% no doubt; skill-wise, he just kept falling and falling, a “Fallen” talent indeed.

If you have read my earlier articles, I have also maintained that Sunderland would not avoid the drop and I stand by that.  They did the spoiler at Liverpool with no shots at all and tried to do the same thing to Chelsea last weekend.  What is the score?  Chelsea is really impressive!  I do not think they will win the league this season but they are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Defensive-wise, Desailly and Gallas will be the first choice for France for the near future and John Terry is a more than able backup.  Rumours are going round that Sir Bobby Robson is sniffing at him.  Terry may be tempted to go for more first team choices.  Attacking-wise, Zola, Hasselbaink and Gudjonsen, oooohhh…  Forrsell and Carlton Cole (on loan at a lower-division side) have also been banging in the goals.  I am not convinced with the midfield though, Lampard is overrated, Gronjkaer can get past defenders easily but cannot cross the ball for nuts and Petit is probably getting old or was it because he can’t perform without his ponytail wagging?

Anyway, I believe Chelsea will beat Everton again this weekend.  Everton’s curse has come earlier than I expected (see Curse of the gong!).  With Yobo and Unsworth out for some matches, do the Toffees have the depth?  Probably they will need more coffee to perk up the defence.

The match of the week is certainly got to be the Arsenal at the Theatre of Wet Dreams.  After last weekend of the defeat of my favourite pools, the so-called “experts” are talking about the Wet Dreamers being a title contender again after writing them off earlier in the season.  And, of course, now they are writing off Liverpool’s chances.  Well, I never really believe these idiots anyway.  We all know which teams will be up there at the end of the season.  I hope that they will continue to write off Liverpool’s chances so we can do the job quietly just like what we did when we went to the top of the table over a month ago.

We will be facing Charlton over the weekend.  We have not been doing well at the Capital with losses at Chelsea, Spurs and most recently Fulham in the past few seasons.  The exception has been Charlton, with our most memorable victory 2 seasons ago with the “God” (Robbie Fowler) grabbing a brace for a 4-nil win and securing third place in addition to our treble trophies.

Needless to say, all Liverpool fans will hope our winning run against Charlton will continue and our losing run in the league to end.  I am rooting for Owen to score one and Gerrard to grab the other to mark his return to form, and Kirkland to start on a good run with a clean sheet.  Go Liverpool Go!

Since the Arsenal and Scums (Man U) match is the game of the week, I have to make a prediction as well.  The scummy defenders have wet dreams often (not last week though).   The wet and bad dreams may return as the Arsenal firepower may be too strong.

You may also make your predictions at StarHub Cable TV’s website and win a chance to watch an EPL game.  I was asked to predict which team will win in 3 matches which I have stated my choice above.  Good luck to me, and to you too!
