My wife and companion of 15 years - Angela

We still reside in Maple Heights.

We have three Sons William A. Cunningham II - Cleveland Police Officer. Damion Ellis Cunningham, National City Bank (Loan officer Trainer). Angelo Clinkscale attending college.

As of July 18, 2003, I am retired from the rank of Sergeant after working 26 years with the Cleveland Police Division. Last assignment Internal Affairs Unit.

Listed below is my police career:

1977 - 2003, 26 Years

I started with the City of Cleveland Police department in September/1977 From September 1977 - January/1978 I was in the Police Academy.

1978 -1981 I worked a squad car

1981-1984 I worked in the Detective Bureau in the 4th District; I investigated Robberies, Burglaries, Felonious Assaults, Thefts, Rapes, Hate and Juvenile Crimes.

1984 - 1988 I was assigned to the Narcotics Unit as an Investigator, while assigned there I was assigned to Street Level Investigations and later to Major Narcotic Investigations

1988-1993 I was assigned to the Homicide Unit as an Investigator I later was assigned to the Use of Deadly Force Investigation Section of the Homicide Unit where I investigated incidents such as Police Shootings and Assaults on police officers.

1993 I was promoted to Sergeant

1993 I was assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit where I investigated felony allegations made against police officers

1993 - 1998 I was later assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Street Crimes Unit where I supervised personnel regarding Drug, Prostitution, and Food Stamp Trafficking. While in the Street Crimes Unit I was also assigned and headed the Crisis and Hostage Negotiation Team.

1998 - 2000 I went back to the Homicide Unit as a Supervisor and temporary Officer in Charge of the Homicide Unit where I participated in, and managed death investigations, and also over saw the use of Deadly Force Investigations.

2000-2001 I went back to the Street Crimes unit where I oversaw the piloting of a new and revised program that targeted call girl and vice operations in addition to drug activity.

2001-Retirement 2003, I returned to the Internal Affairs Unit where I ended my career.

My professional career involved my being trained in Leadership skills, Emergency response to terrorist incidents, Hostage and Advanced Hostage Negotiations, career Survival (Ethics in Law Enforcement) Drug Enforcement Administration (Federal Department of Justice) National Homicide Investigations, Special courses in Verbal and judo.

In 1995 I attended the FBI National Academy from January - March where I graduated with training in managing Death Investigations, Effective communication, Forensic and Technical Science for managers, and Legal Issues for Command level Officers

2002 I was via application accepted to attend PELC, (Police Executive Leadership College), but due to my anticipated retirement I decline to attend.
