Shrek

2001 **** 93 mins.

First and foremost, let me get this off my chest: I would NOT let my young children see this film. The potty humour gets on my nerves, as well as the language and sexual references. Every time I hear Shrek speak, I keep thinking of Fat Bastard from the Austin Powers movies because . . . well . . . IT'S THE SAME FRICKIN' VOICE!!!!

That being said, this is a very, very, very well-made and interesting film in which different fairy tales are woven into a new fairy tale that is highly entertaining. I must admit, that although the annoying parts of the film kept egging at me, I really enjoyed this film. There are a lot of comical parts, as well as genuine emotion. At least this is a film that does what it sets out to do, and it doesn't fall under the dictates of modern Hollywood animation.
Rated PG for mild language and some crude humor.
