THE ROCKY HORROR
PICTURE SHOW
1975 ***** 100 mins. (U.S. Version runs 98 mins.)
This cult classic is a true "sensual daydream to treasure forever." It all begins when a newly engaged couple (Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon in their film debuts) seek refuge at a castle inhabited by a "Sweet Transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania." To quote the theatrical trailer, "The story is strange. The songs are super. The scenery is smashing. The cast is completely crazy." The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a film that will never die.
Number 24 on KRSJR Productions' 25 Greatest Motion Pictures of All Time.
Rated R for sexual content and brief language.
NOTES:
- Original theatrical aspect ratio: 1.85:1 (shot in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio)
- Premiered in London on August 14, 1975
- The U.S. version does not include the first two verses of the song "Super Heroes", and it uses some of the soundtrack album recordings for some of the other songs. It also has added or subtracted sound effects throughout. The official U.S. version is only available on VHS and LaserDisc, as the DVD "U.S. Version" is just the U.K. version with the first two verses of "Super Heroes" skipped over.
