THX 1138: The George Lucas Director's Cut - 1971/2004 88 mins. ****1/2
"Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB" - 1970 15 mins. ****1/2
This is a truly entertaining, interesting, artistic, and magnificent tale from George Lucas--his first film. "Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB" is his original student film that became the motion picture THX 1138. I own the DVD pictured above, so I've only seen "The George Lucas Director's Cut" of the film, ergo, that is what I'm giving this review on.
In the future, our lives are controlled by the government. We all look alike, our mates are chosen electronically for us, and we take medications to, practically, turn us into robots, programmed to meet the government's expectations. In the midst of all this, one couple violates the rules and discover love and sexual feelings hidden beneath the medication. This sets the government out for them. This is a truly remarkable first work from George Lucas, and a film that should be remembered forever.
