Robin Byrd

In 1977, Robin Byrd's poem I AM was a WTLC Radio Station, Indianapolis, Indiana contest winner.  Several of her drama poems have been performed in anniversary programs, talent shows, auditions and funerals since 1978 to the present.

A two-act play,  IN TIMES LIKE THESE (IS HE THE ONE?), was presented in a workshop production by the West Angeles Christian Fine Arts Department, Los Angeles, California, in 1993.  Her ten-minute plays, JEZEBEL:  DAUGHTER OF THE NIGHT, SOLOMON AND THE SHULAMITE, and DAVID LOVED A WOMAN, and her monodramas, THE PREACHER, RAHAB, and PHARAOH, were included in the West Angeles Christian Fine Arts Department diversity month celebration "Family Reunion" in 1994 and again in 1995.

A musical FOR THIS REASON was produced in 1994 by the West Angeles Christian Fine Arts Department.  She performed her monodrama ME, MY FIDDLE, AND MOMMA at an actor's showcase at the Harman Avenue Theatre, Los Angeles in 1995.

Her play, THE DAY OF SMALL THINGS was produced in March, 2000 at the West Angeles Performing Arts Theatre, Los Angeles, California.

SHADOWS IN THE BLACKNESS, a screenplay, was selected by the American Film Institute to participate in the Screenwriters' Series Rewrite Workshop, Summer 2000 resulting in a Certificate of Completion in Screenwriting from the institute.

Robin is concurrently working on a play, BETWEEN MEN and a three play series DREAM CATCHER/UNTIL THE DAY BREAKS/AND THE SHADOWS FLEE AWAY. Robin completed DREAM CATCHER in 2002 and has begun research for the second and third plays in the series.

In 2006, Robin was a featured playwright at the 1st annual Great Plains Theatre Conference in Omaha, Nebraska with her play, DREAM CATCHER. The conference is a collaboration between Pulizter Prize winning playwright Edward Albee and Dr. Jo Ann C. McDowell, president of Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. The two created the Last Frontier Theatre Conference which is held annually in Alaska. In 2007, Robin returned to the Great Plains Theatre Conference once again as a featured playwright with her one-act, THE BOOK OF YEARS. For 2008, portions of her new play TENNESSEE SONGBIRD (the place where the river bends) will be read. Just recently, Robin's ME, MY FIDDLE, AN' MOMMA was read in Portland, Maine for the 1st Annual SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day event.
