Why does love make us stupid,
Bound to cast freedom away?
We can blame it on Cupid,
When he has us in his sway.

Arrows are tipped with a drug
Making her look kind of cute,
And him such a handsome lug,
That they’re obsessed with pursuit.

He chases her for a while,
She pretends to ignore him.
When she gives him a small smile,
He’s convinced she adores him.

Using charms to set her snare,
The poor guy hasn’t a chance.
While he’s too dumb to beware,
She sees a life of romance.

Eventually, they’re caught,
Just as Cupid had it planned.
Then they find wedded life’s not
Blissful, wonderful or grand.

In some ways it’s the reverse,
Diapers, housework, daily toil,
Confinement, the empty purse,
Arguments build to a boil.

Yet, there’s one saving feature,
After all is said and done -
Giving birth to a creature
Comprised of parts from each one.

Then, there likely will be more,
To add challenge to your life,
Their presence, hard to ignore,
Filling the household with strife.

But you’ll come to realize
That, despite each growing pain,
Being stupid was quite wise -
You’ve known love time and again.
