SADE
Sade.  She is one of the most talented singers to come around in the past 15 years. Inspried by the likes of Billie Holliday, Curtis Mayfeild, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, and Nina Simone Sade's music combines the best elements of jazz and soul, and wins us over with a smooth and sensual vocal delivery.  With her exotic voice and comanding stage presense,  she has proved herself a strong and powerful force in the music world.  Her lyrics of love and love lost have mesmorized us and captured hearts for years.  With over 30 millions albums sold worldwide, Sade has proven that she is more than just a pretty face.

Sade was born Helen Folasade Adu in Nigeria, on January 16, 1959.  Her parents Bisi Adu and Anne Hayes, met in London when her father was studying at the London School of Economics. Bisi and Anne moved to Africa when Bisi was offered a teaching position at a university there.  When Sade was 4, her parents were having problems so her mother took her and her brother Banji to England.  They stayed with Anne's parents.  In 1977 Sade arrived in London for a three year course in fashion design at St.Martin's School of Art.  Sade discovered a real passion for songwriting when she was asked to sing with  Latin funk band Arriva in the early 80s.  During this time, Sade wrote her future hit song "Smooth Operator".  In 1981 Sade joined an eight piece funk band called Pride as a back up singer.  After she realized how much she loved singing, she started a new band with fellow Pride members Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale and Paul Spencer Denman.  In 1984 they released their first single "Your Love Is King" and the rest is history.
