The Lazarenkos have been part of the Scottish pop/rock scene for some time. The Lazarenkos always attract a regular following wherever they perform, converting new fans with their energetic and melodic sound. Its members have played under various guises and with other bands in the past.
The band had originally been called Powderfinger, but due to an Australian rock band adopting the same name they decided on changing the name to The Lazarenkos.
Recent performances include appearances alongside Robbie McIntosh, chart-topping star Gordon Haskell, Americana band Nadine, Thea Gilmore and American singer/songwriter Tom Russell. Last year The Lazarenkos helped to persuade Gordon Haskell and Robbie McIntosh to perform a one-off gig in Greenock.
The band have also provided the musical entertainment on comedy nights featuring T.V. comedians such as Phil Jupitus and Fred MacAuley, where they were noted in the Glasgow Herald as providing music in an "authentic country-rockaboogie vein".
The bands original songs are influenced by artists such as Woody Guthrie, Neil Young, Steve Earle and 60's band The Byrds.
Band member Davy Nicol recently produced the "live" critically acclaimed CD album called "Across the River". This features 12 of his own original songs, which were recorded from live solo performances in Glasgow at Blackfriars, Merchant City. The songs on the live album combine pop, country and folk.
The band also features successful artist and co-front man Alec Galloway, also a fine guitarist and singer/songwriter in his own right. Davy, Stephen and Alec have been working on new material, along with the talented rhythm combo of Craig Weir on acoustic/electric bass-guitar/mandolin and Alan McIntosh on drums and percussion.
The band are touring and performing at various showcase gigs to promote their recently recorded 7 track CD "Eight-Foot Honey", and hope to record a new album for release early next year.
