Coach's Comments
2002 Titans

    4/23/02 - Riverside
Tonights comments will be short and to the point. We won, we didn't play our best ball the second half but we hung on and won. We had three starters out again tonight due to injury and illness and had to call on people to step up and be ready to play. We had to move Luke Thomson back to Sweep to cover for Seth Jackson to allow him time to get well. Luke stepped in and played very well and between him and Justin Toole they combined for a tough back field. Justin played a great game with some great saves and some luck with Mr. Posty on his side and managed to log his second shut out of the season. Keith Damgaard returned to the field tonight for his first game of the season and then gets to sit out one more after getting a red card due to retaliation. While Keith was in he played well and it was nice to see him back on the field. We played a great first half, controled the ball, moved it very well and put several passes together which is always nice to watch. The problem is we didn't put the bun in the oven. Daniel Knigge did take charge and scored with 8 minutes left in the first half. We hung on to go into the half at 1-0. The second half we now had the wind advantage but failed to use it again. We looked frustrated and winded in the second half and went completly away from every thing that worked in the first half. The game ended 1-0 but they certainly had their opportunities. Austin Croushorn and Andy Himes stepped up and played well tonight, Joel Edwards and John Kocourek got their first shot at a little Varsity time tonight. They admitted afterwards that it is a little different then JV. Thursday night we are on the road to Carroll to take on Kuemper. This game based on history will be a tough one. They always seem to be pumped up for us. We will have to play a better game then we did tonight and look sharper doing it. Check back on Friday to see how we did.

Things are looking up with the JV. We still lost but on the positive side we only gave up one goal. Now if we can work on finishing we will win. Tonight our focus was to find a defensive combination that is going to work. I think we found it. We had one mental breakdown on marking up and left the back door open. They saw it and managed to punch one in. Once we learn how to finish and score consistantly we will be ready to play. Overall they played a very good and solid game tonight and I was proud of them for the effort that they put forward. In practice we will focus on first touch and finishing. JV is their to give one a chance to improve and get playing time. Tonight we improved and the kids were able to see some of the things that they need to work on. Head up, chins high, stay confident and keep checking back. A win is coming I know it.
