"If I hear it, I forget.  If I see it, I remember.  If I do it, I understand.

I want my students to BE scientists, not just learn about them. In order to accomplish this, I am trying to provide an authentic learning environment for them.  Therefore, I have made my classroom into a research laboratory, called Ledgerwood Laboratories.  The students aren't students, they're my employees.  Sometimes we perform pure research, other times it is applied.  Using this approach, not only do students learn the curriculum, they also develop skills that can be used in the workplace.
I use the following vocabulary with my students:
